Sandwiches as a metaphor for Truth

I don't mean to interrupt another opportunity at taking such clever potshots at your favorite non-existent monolith, but what you have is an anology, not a metaphor.

Too clever by half.

A metaphor is an analogy between two objects or ideas, conveyed by the use of a word instead of another. ... Moreover, metaphor also denotes rhetorical figures of speech that achieve their effects via association, comparison, and resemblance, e.g. antithesis, hyperbole, metonymy, and simile; all are species of metaphor. [5]

A metaphor is more forceful (active) than an analogy, because metaphor asserts two things are the same, whereas analogy acknowledges difference; other rhetorical comparative figures of speech, such as metonymy, parable, simile, and synecdoche, are species of metaphor distinguished by how the comparison is communicated

I'm still waiting on my clubbed baby seal club on wheat.

Mmmm. The clubbing adds a layer of flavor that is incomparable. With a little cracked black pepper, some lemon juice, and a fat NWO paycheck, it's a little slice of heaven.

Could this be a typical truther sandwich? I am sure they know how to pile it on high. :D

"If 9-11 Truth was a sandwhich, what kind of sandwhich would it be?"

A Marm*te sandwich.

The menu would describe it as mashed Therm*te, sprinkled with a few squibs and topped off with a generous spattering of molten hot cheese. All served wrapped in nano epoxy bubble wrap for freshness. Eat by date states Sep 11 2033.

"The Truth is sandwiches" is a metaphor. But the whole OP was an analogy, yes, and it was nicely done.

Yet another example (too many to count now) of RedIbis avoiding substance by resorting to semantics, and even then he gets it wrong . He doesn't even know how to spell "analogy" and yet he purports to lecture someone else about their use of the term "metaphor" v. "anology" [sic}.

How utterly ridiculous.

In any event, it matters not a whit whether one characterizes the OP as an analogy or a metaphor. In either event, the OP stands, and conspiracy fantasists fail to address reality, as usual.

*As an aside, cucumber and tomato sandwiches on whole wheat bread with butter on one side and mayo on the other - yum. Oh, and bacon stands alone, of course, as world class sandwich material all on its own. Double yum.

Now this is funny. You're badgering me about avoiding "substance" in a thread about sandwiches.

This is a metaphor, so I'm sure it will go right over the truthers' heads.

Let's say you are a sandwich-o-phile. You love sandwiches. You obsess over sandwiches. You put sandwich-themed bumper sticker on your car. You go to sandwich rallies and carry signs. You visit sandwich websites, watch you-tube sandwich videos, and post on internet forums about sandwiches into the wee hours of the morning.

But, you just don't feel like making a sandwich.

So, you ask your roommate to make you one. He does.

The sandwich is no good. You toss it aside and tell your roommate he must do better.

So he makes you another sandwich, this time taking special care to put everything into the sandwich that you said was lacking in the first one.

Nope, still no good. You toss it aside.

Your roommate makes you sandwich after sandwich. You hate them all. Quickly, he grows tired of this exercise in futility and stops making you sandwiches. But others arrive, friends of your roomate's, who have heard how stubborn you are and hope they can make a sandwich that satisfies you.

To no avail. You sneer at their sandwich-making abilities and knock the offerings from their hands. It doesn't matter how carefully crafted the sandwiches are, what type of bread they use, what kind of condiments or meats. It doesn't matter how closely your own specifications are followed. No sandwich is sufficient.

"But, you love sandwiches", they protest. "How can you be so filled with hatred for every type of sandwich known to Man?"

You continue to assert that the right sandwich has yet to be made.

Now, given all this...can you really say with any sincerity that you love sandwiches?

As it is with sandwiches, so it is with the Truth.

Discuss.

I would state the same thing , but in a slightly different way. Unfortunately a metaphor escapes me and dinner is almost made.

There are certain questions that you are not going to understand the answers to, and no amount of google fu , or wikipedia ninjary is going to give you the amount of education needed to understand the answers.

A simple example being when 50-60 year old clients with their first computer ask me what went wrong. Sure i can give them the answer, but if they understood the answer, they wouldn't need me. And yes i could dumb it down, but a lot of the time required details get lost in translation.

So what is happening is that the truthers are getting the answers, every time they jaq off, they get a happy ending. But because the don't understand those answers, and they do understand the CT spewers they go with what they understand.

The thing is , i am not smarter than , for example one of my good friends who is a truther. The difference being that i realize that i am not smart enough to understand the physics of the event without proper education, so the next best thing is making sure a source is versed in what they speak, and when you find one that is listen to what they have to say.

It is the difference between the engineer who says " well i went to school and this is what happened." and the ct spewer who says " you can figure this out, its real easy, but let me help you....."
