Sam Harris: Science can answer moral questions

For those who don't want to waste almost 4 minutes on an textumentary with annoying music: it is an off topic textumentary with annoying music.

It's not off-topic. Sam Harris devotes a chapter to the idea that God serves as a source of morals.

The video does not mention Sam Harris or address anything he argues. It is off topic.

Harris argues the same points. And since you can't bother to read Harris' book, perhaps Paulhoff thought a sub-four minute video would do the trick. :)

Sigh... I guess discussing Sam Harris' views and how they relate to this video is on topic...

The video only mentions things that are attributed to God in the Bible. Since there are other conceptions of God, it is not sufficient to point to the Bible to prove God cannot be the source of morality; unless of course Sam Harris can prove the God from the Bible is the One True God. The statements in the Bible Sam Harris is likely to claim are immoral have many different interpretations, so it is not sufficient for him to declare them incompatible with his conception of morality to prove that the Bible cannot be a source of morality; unless of course he can prove his interpretation of the Bible is the One Truth, and his morality is the One True Moral Code.

If he cannot and makes no other argument for "why God cannot be the source of morality" then he has no argument at all for the rather unproblematic claim that God cannot be the source of morality.

Do you talk to Americans,
The world view of Americans is not the topic of the thread.

... one has no source of morals.
What would be on topic is Sam Harris claim that science can be such a "source of morals". Also on topic would be a discussion on whether morality needs a "source", and what that means anyway.

Do you talk to Americans, seems not, the religious always tell me that without a god, one has no source of morals.
Outside of internet forums, I stopped having discussions like that when I was maybe 14; and I've seen no one take that position here.

Well, as long has you guys think that science is inflexible and dogmatic in its ways, there is no talking to you.

So where do you get your morals.

Same place you got yours, most likely; the society (or societies) we respectively have lived in throughout our lives .

I only keep the ones that make sense, and have added ones that are still being added to society and most likely will take longer than I will live to be put in place if at all.
