Oklahoma state representative Sally Kerns was recorded saying "the homosexual agenda is destroying this nation. OK. It's just a fact." and likens it to a cancer that should be cut out.

In the roughly three-minute recording of Kern at a meeting among fellow Republicans, she claimed that gays were trying to indoctrinate 2-year-olds through the school system; that they had infiltrated city councils; that no society tolerating homosexuality has ever lasted more than a few decades and that gays, even more so than terrorists, were the biggest threat facing America. The recording has been heard by more than half a million people on the Internet, according to the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, which posted it on its Web site.

A vigorous debate on an issue is not ‘hate speech’ – it’s free speech. I have made clear my opposition to the agenda of homosexual activists, but I have never endorsed or supported any hateful action targeting individuals on the other side of this debate and never will. The fact that many gay rights activists claim anyone opposing their agenda is engaging in ‘hate speech’ says more about them than me.

Her stance is retarded, but she's right about this. Having an unpopular... or even stupid... opinion isn't hate speech, regardless of how much the easily offended masses may want it to be.
