When SVT host Anders Holmberg says to the Russian Ambassador to Sweden that Russia occupied Crimea the ambassador reacts forcefully. - We have not occupied any country, he said.
- Crimea has always been a part of Russia, said Russian Ambassador to Sweden Victor Tatarintsev to SVT News.

He believes that Russia never sent any military to the Crimean peninsula.

- We have not occupied any country, said Victor Tatarintsev to SVT News.

But your president claimed that?

- There was one Russian military base in the Crimea, but it did not matter. The most important thing was that they had had a referendum and a majority of the population voted to be part of Russia.

...

But the ambassador thinks it's ridiculous to see Russia as a threat.

- We have not been a threat to Sweden.

Russia's intention to occupy the island of Gotland, or important strategic objects in Sweden, lacks the full sense of reality says Victor Tatarintsev.

- We have no plans to invade Sweden, the Swedish population can sleep in peace.

It's bizarre that people somehow get the impression that Russians can be trusted. Even when they are trying to reassure people they can't keep themselves from making the most obvious and outrageous lies. Russian society is built from the ground up on lies, deceit and subterfuge.

?? I'll grant you that all media, East and West, need vetting and have interests. However, changing international borders by force does seem to be an historical and contemporary habit for the Bear. The excuse of "protecting Russians" has been repeatedly used as mantra to violate national sovereignty, meaning that border states such as the Baltics have legitimate reasons to doubt Russian assurances.

I recall the Warsaw Pact, did, in fact, have a plan for first strike, as the composition and distribution of their forces intimated. Poo-pooed by the apologists, of course. As for submarines in Swedish waters.

One of the usual lies that Russians try to push is that they aren't worse than anyone else. They don't lie or cheat more than others else and their country is just as flawed as any.

For example, when their state sponsored doping program was exposed they maintained (and continue to maintain) that Russia was being unfairly punished and that what they did was no worse than any other country.

Basically: "All countries have cheaters so there's no difference between individual athletes cheating on their own accord and having state agencies actively help their countries athletes to cheat."

It's bizarre that people somehow get the impression that Russians Jews can be trusted. Even when they are trying to reassure people they can't keep themselves from making the most obvious and outrageous lies. Russian Jewish society is built from the ground up on lies, deceit and subterfuge.

Russia's Lavrov says Syria talks with US at dead end

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said talks with the United States on Syria were at a dead end, and ISIS's advance to Palmyra may have been staged by the United States and its regional allies

The last time I checked, the vast majority of territory lost by ISIS has been where they are fighting U.S. supported groups - the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish groups. Yet, somehow (according toe Lavrov) the U.S. is also allied with ISIS now and is giving them orders.

Russia can't accept the loss of face associated with the ISIS recapture of Palmyra, so they just make up lies blaming someone else.

Delusional.

And yet it functions. How weird is that?

The Crimea, of course, plays a leading role in the Russian national narrative, and was never surrendered by Russia once conquered. It was never foreign territory in that sense; it was in the Soviet sense for a brief while, but that's old history now. Normality was resumed, with remarkably little bloodshed and a general sense of inevitablity.

The Russian Empire conquered the Baltic States from the Swedes. Perhaps they should doubt Swedish assurances.

The Warsaw Pact's failure to carry out so many plans is an eternal disappointment for us all. Even the Reaganouts wussed-out when it came to the vinegar-strokes.

You're giving Russian propaganda way too much credit. The vested interest of Western media is making money. They get that by selling the audiences what they want to hear. This is why we get so many stories about various celebrities and whatnot.
The vested interest of Russian media is furthering the goal of the Kremlin. That's why we get so many stories about the threatened Russian minority in Ukraine and whatnot.

Comparing the two is giving the Russkies way too much credit. To put it simply, Western media focuses on whatever is popular. Russian media lies if it helps the goals of Kremlin. You can't even begin to compare the two. Moral equivalency the Kremlin and their useful you-know-whats do should be shot down as delusional on sight.

Looks like there is at least one unicorn you're willing to stand behind?

So desperate...

No, just testing a heuristic:
Substitute the group of people defined by the Jewish unicorn into your rhetoric regarding a group of people defined by another unicorn. Do you suddenly sound like a total nazi? Then you probably are one.

Because Russians are such an oppressed minority?

I remember back in the cold war days listening to white nationalists say how we should be friendly with Russians because they're white.

Russians weren't any more of a minority in 1941 but that didn't stop Nazis from oppressing Slav "sub humans".

Russians Humans can't keep themselves from lying about everything systems of disparity that they want to support, and defend, all of the time.

Oh it isn't a 'lie'. They have no plans to invade 'Sweden', just the same as they never invaded 'Ukraine'.

But they will move their troops anywhere they want in 'Russia', including those parts of 'Russia' that others might call 'Ukraine' or 'Sweden' or 'your email'.

Other than Russian POWs, do you have evidence of Nazi oppression?

Of Russo-Slavs? Basically everything that unfolded through Generalplan Ost.

Just as an example, the Polish Gau's laws included execution of any Slav who had sexual relations with a German.
