“In the book you refer to the destruction of the twin towers in New York — 9/11 — as what some people say looked like a controlled explosion,” Davis said. “One might read that as you giving some credence to conspiracy theories.”

“You can read the book in whatever manner you would like to, Evan,” Brand replied.

Davis then asks more directly about what Brand believes about the 9/11 attacks, which killed over 3,000 people.

“I think it is interesting at this time when we have so little trust in our political figures, where ordinary people have so little trust in their media, we have to remain open-minded to any kind of possibility,” Brand replied.

“Do you trust the American government? Do you trust the British government?” he continued. “What I do think is very interesting is the relationship that the Bush family have had for a long time with the bin Laden family.

“What I do think is very interesting is the way that even the BBC report the events in Ottawa to subtly build an anti-Islamic narrative. I think that’s very interesting.”

Eventually Brand ended the 9/11 line of questioning by saying he did not want to discuss “daft” conspiracy theories.

Ah yes, the "some people say" tactic of alleging something without having to stand behind the allegation. :rolleyes:

Some people say that Russell Brand is an overhyped charlatan (Not me, mind you. That would be daft...:cool: )
 
First reaction was "Who the heck is Russell Brand" and "So what?"

So I looked him up at Wikipedia and found that "Brand was fired several days after coming to work dressed as Osama bin Laden the day after the 11 September 2001 attacks and bringing his drug dealer to the MTV studios". And that "Through Transcendental Meditation, twice daily I feel the bliss of the divine..... I connect to a boundless consciousness...". Which kinda corroborated the "so what" conclusion.

But then I thought: He expresses the rational. critical stance towards media: Be open towards all possibilities. If only he added "...and just go where the evidence leads you". Should he advise everyone to trust the media uncritically and not be open to the possibility that what is reported may not be fully the truth?

The usual vague'ish talking points and refusal to commit to an opinion we've come to see whenever a celebrity like to flirt with controversy.
 
Russell Brand: Is anti-political. Also wants to be mayor of London.

So he doesn't want people to vote, except for when they vote for him.


Truly a genius.
 
Some people are so open-minded that when they lean forward their brains fall out. Fortunately, Brand doesn't appear to have any.

On the 9/11 thing he seems to want to have it both ways; by pretending that it is reasonable to consider the US government as potential suspects, and then less than a minute later to dismiss "daft conspiracy theories".

In fact, he pretty much wants it both ways on everything; people should listen to him and take him seriously, and that his ideas don't need to be analyzed for coherence because he's not a politician or an economist.
 
Brand was recently on the Howard Stern show promoting his new book and although 9/11 didn't come up as a subject Brand basically subscribes to the "let's hold hands and sing" philosophy of political science (benevolent socialism)

Not surprised CT's would be in the mix.

Jon Stewart does this too. He gets to make political pronouncements, but, when challenged to defend his ideas, "hey, I'm just a comedian."
