This time, he's after the Congressional Black Caucus.

Just a little side note on this: The CBC has noted (accurately) that a lot of the criticism of Obama has far more to do with his skin color than the content of what he's done. They are correct to point this out, and I would be panicked if they didn't point this out. (This is different from Jimmy Carter's bleat that any criticism of Obama was inherently racist.)

The problem for those who are raising serious questions regarding Obama's actions is that when they have to get through the noise of the Limbaughs of the world, they're almost silenced, not so much by the content of what they say, but because they unfairly get lumped in with this bloated bigot's bleats.

Why is anyone advertising on this jackasses' program?

I think because he has a solid market among people who are as filled with hate as he is. The feed off his hate. Like the Autumn People fed off dreams in "Something Wicked This Way Comes".

Charles Halloway: I know who you are. You are the autumn people. Where do you come from? The dust. Where do you go to? The grave.

Mr. Dark: Yes. We are the hungry ones. Your torments call us like dogs in the night. And we do feed, and feed well.

Charles Halloway: To stuff yourselves on other people's nightmares.

Mr. Dark: And butter our plain bread with delicious pain. So, you do understand a little.

Charles Halloway: You are known in this town. My father knew you.

Mr. Dark: Your father? The preacher? That half-man?

Charles Halloway: He lived on goodness.

Mr. Dark: Tasteless fare. Funerals, bad marriages, lost loves, lonely beds. That is our diet. We suck that misery and find it sweet. We search for more always. We can smell young boys ulcerating to be men a thousand miles off. And hear a middle-aged fool like yourself groaning with midnight despairs from halfway around the world.

That's the soul of Limbaugh's audience right there.

He misspoke, somewhat amusingly making two mistakes at once. He called them the Congressional White Caucasians, then (partially) corrected himself, calling them the Congressional Black Caucasians.

He was not saying something intentionally funny (or racist). When Rush says something he means to be funny, he pauses like a comedian before giving the punchline, and delivers it drolly.

Personally I find it tedious that so much of the criticism of Obama is chalked up to racism. All presidents receive a ton of criticism; Bush and Clinton certainly were not spared because they were white.

No question, and neither is Obama. Problem is, from my perspective, that when I listen to the criticism, I can catch the "code" from the critics which tell me it's more to do with Obama's race than his policy, and it's confirmed when you realize that what's being criticized might have been acceptable under Clinton or Bush, but not Obama.

Since Obama was elected the overall tone from the right has been much much nastier than what ive ever seen before with any president in my lifetime. They got Clinton with the infamous BJ but their crucifying Obama for things he hasnt even done nor indicated he would ever do. In fact if Obama was a white guy id bet he wouldnt be as reviled by the right as he is. Just about everything he has done I would put as more a moderate republican from 5-6 years ago than any democratic position. Yeah if Obama declared that water was wet the loons on the right would call water a liberal conspiracy.

My prediction was correct: no concrete examples to provide to Brainster.....

That's the soul of Limbaugh's audience right there.
Part of his audience.

The other part (and the reason Rush outstripped his mentor Joe Pyne), is comprised of large numbers of those who hang on his every word in order to build up a good bellyful of justifiable outrage... and he sells them what they need as well.

Examples?
While I expect you to disagree, I think questioning his birth place is one example. We might also consider those that stay silent rather then correct others when in their presence his birth place is questioned. I mention that last point as a contrast to how John McCain, much to his credit, responded 4 years ago in similar circumstances.

Perhaps you missed the tone from the left during the eight years of the G.W Bush administration?

I am sure some who think this are racist. How do you know the bulk are not just thinking they are on to a deep truth so they can stick it to liberals?

Also, if this is pervasive, there should be many more examples. Hatred of leftist legislation is hardly Obama-specific.

I think the Birthers are morons, but let's remember that the original Birthers were Democrats supporting Hillary Clinton. Let's remember that there were dolts suggesting that John McCain wasn't a natural-born citizen. And, yes, prepare yourself for the folks who think the same about Mitt Romney.

I'd say this would be a better answer than I could have provided.

Among the more bizarre emails I get from groups like The Second Amendment Foundation are declarations that we were going to have food riots this summer, and Obama was behind it. (Not to mention that it was part of his support for Agenda 21. Seriously?!?!)

Clinton might have gotten some slime, but Obama's getting bucketloads of it. And while Brainster is correct in his assertion that the birther stupidity started with Hillary supporters, it's been perpetuated by the far right, and carried to unheard of depths.

And, just so we're all clear on this: I was born in Yuba City, CA. My grandfather got a bit of notice from the Associated Press back in the early 80's when Yuba City was declared by Places Rated to be the Worst City in the USA. When that little goodie came out, he put a sign out front of his bar, Dower's Tavern, that said, "The Best Bar In The Worst City In The USA."

The city fathers were not amused.

(Just so you know, I'm a gen-u-ine American citizen. Born here. Just like BO.)

I don't know if Rush is a racist. I've tried to be honest in my assessment of him. I've even lost friends defending the guy. As a former decades long fan who for years went through the trouble of taping his 3 hour shows to VHS and bought his two books, I can say I find him mostly to be an opportunist. A true believer in capitalism and conservative principles I've no doubt, but his actions and rhetoric are more about making money. If he can exploit racist or bigoted sentiment to make a buck he'll do it. And hey, if it happens to advance his ideology so much the better. I'd say he's as principled as a crack whore who hasn't scored a hit in over a week. Racially insensitive? Yeah. Undercurrent of xenophobia and an unconscious fear of America becoming less white? Sure.

But I don't know anymore. If he had a secret tape surface where he was caught making overt and gratuitous racist statement I guess that wouldn't surprise me too much either.

I'll probably not come to his aid much anymore.

There were times when I used to support him. His very vocal support for Edwin Edwards over David Duke showed he was capable of taking a principled stand, but that he has sunk to this level is sad.

I don't think Rush calls his own shots any more. I can relate to you something that happened right after Bush the Lesser was installed;

I was driving down to Indianapolis to get my daughter, and there was nothing on the radio. At the time I was driving a beater and it had an AM radio only.

Rush was going off on something that the new Attorney General was doing and was furious about it.

Then the top of the hour came.

When he got back from the break he apologized for the previous hour, saying it was "Not up to our usual high standards." and promising that it would not be in the show archive.

He sounded contrite and worried.

I don't wonder he turned to drugs. When you are used to speaking your mind, having somebody else tell you what to say is ego-destroying. I couldn't tolerate it myself.
