I totally disagree. This disaster shows that there needs to be more government regulation concerning these off-shore drilling operations. If there were regulations, this may very well have never happened. The whole "market will punish them" doesn't even make sense. Has that philosophy ever actually worked?
since you are apparently the ONLY one who actually knows what happened, perhaps you can tell us?
I mean, you know absolutely that BP "cut corners", and that more regulations would have prevented this. What regulations?
And how you know all this might be useful to the prosecution...

how about we wait till the investigation is over.

You can wait. I think I'll voice my concerns based on facts as I know them. That particular BP plant was missing a safety valve which is required in other parts of the world, but not in the USA.

Sounds like President Obama is a conspiracy theorist too:

OBAMA: I do want to speak briefly to the American people about the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Earlier today DHS Secretary Napolitano announced that this incident is of national significance and the Department of Interior has announced that they will be sending SWAT teams to the Gulf to inspect all platforms and rigs and I have ordered the secretaries of interior and Homeland Security as well as administrator Lisa Jackson of the Environmental Protection Agency to visit the site on Friday to ensure that BP and the entire US government is doing everything possible not just to respond to this incident but also to determine its cause.

Having people investigate as to whether this was a sabotage or not makes him a conspiracist?! What frikkin planet are you from?

A manually operated valve is not the same as a safety valve which would automatically close when an accident occurs. You fail, rwguinn. Try again. Oh wait, I guess I'm on ignore for making you try to think about the facts.

I suppose one could argue that the same people who wanted to advance a world government by coercing those in the climate-research fields to fudge data to suggest there is an environmental crisis to exploit for fear-mongering purposes, which they would use to push for increasing, and eventually total control over the world could be responsible for sabotaging this oil-rig.

It would create an entirely new environmental problem to be scared about, as oil is toxic and nobody wants their fish to have quaker-state on it

Can you provide me a reputable link for that quotation?

I tried looking it up on my own, and I can only find right-wing echo-chamber links to it.

Not saying that BHO didn't say it... but I would like a reliable, objective source before I conclude that he did.

Thanks.

Since those people are purely fictional, then such an argument would immediately fail.

According to an oil rig worker, oil companies maintain SWAT teams for .. checking on their oil righs. Makes the A sorta ...

SWAT#SWAT_dutiesWP

I can see how the bolded situations apply to Oil Rigs. An oil rig presents an extra level of danger and I can see how training in special weapons and tactics could be seen as beneficial for police work involving oil rigs.

Thanks, clarification on how SWAT could be related to this is much appreciated.

If BP "cut corners" in pursuit of ever higher profits, losing their rig and paid labor to death and destruction, then rest assured the free market will punish them.

Sorry to break this to you, but the rotting corpse of that fantasy was found in the wreckage of the global financial meltdown.

Am I the only one who thinks Cain might be joking? That post is too ridiculous to be serious. If it is serious, well, god help him. :eye-poppi

No, I think he´s joking, too. It was a bit too blatant to be serious. One or the other, I´d have thought would be serious (this being the JREF forum, with all its assorted nutters, I´ve seen far worse posted seriously), but both together... not so much.

So they blow up a series of oil rigs to make us think twice about more drilling and nuclear power plants...adversely affecting the environment in the process.

Its all in that one sentence

If theyre stupid enough to oppose nuclear power on "environmental" grounds, theyre willing to destroy the environment to make their points
