Rush Limbaugh checks out at 70...

I guess the question is... why?

I mean, Rush Lymphnode wasn't leading some sort of double life... his actions (mocking parkonson's sufferers, spreading conspiracy theories, engaging in homophobic rhetoric, etc.) were well known to the general public, so they would not have been a surprise to the negative aspects of his existence.

So if his wife stuck with him, she must have at least approved of what he was saying/doing.

Well, it was his fourth.

People can run on and on about a subject and put together whole sentences and even use big words on topics that they simply do not understand at all.

Rush was like that, in my opinion. He didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He could repeat the phrases, but there was no comprehension.
No, he was worse than that. He took facts and used them to bolster his agenda in spite of what they actually meant. That's far worse than parroting things you don't understand.

it just occurred to me..

As with the deaths of celebrities, sports figures etc., I see no headlines about
" whoever " died today and America mourns...

He has already fallen off the front page of ABC news..

Over 3,000 people died in the US today, and Rush was one of them...

He knew a lot of pieces of information. He spent hours every day reading newspapers or web sites (depending on which part of his career) and making sure he knew the news of the day, so he could yap about it.

People can run on and on about a subject and put together whole sentences and even use big words on topics that they simply do not understand at all. People can make firm, solemn declarations on science, economics, or sports almost as if they had a clue about those subjects. In the last 12 months we have been exposed to length discussions of virology and of constitutional law by people who clearly had absolutely no knowledge of virology or constitutional law. They just repeat something they've heard with no real thought. It supports what I want to believe, so I can say it and make it sound real.

Rush was like that, in my opinion. He didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He could repeat the phrases, but there was no comprehension. I have barely heard his show in the last year, since I stopped working at the office, but on one of the last shows I listened to, he explained that the coronavirus was just the common cold. He didn't mean it was no worse than the common cold. he said it was the common cold. And he said it like he meant it, and he repeated some words he had heard related to the word "coronavirus", and it made him sound quite intelligent, if you were no more intelligent than he was.

I just don't think he was very smart.

Calling the coronavirus the common cold fits the narrative that it’s overblown hype and we need to reopen everything and it will go away by Easter more than it does that a guy just doesn’t understand there are different viruses on earth.

He created a generation of buffoons parroting what they heard because he they heard it from him, but he wasn’t one of them. If he had any interest in being truthful or accurate he would have tried to be those things. He had an agenda and was paid well to spread it. So he did.

I hated that stupid, worthless, lying, POS and I am glad that he is dead.

same here, No tears from me that Rush has assumed room temperature, to throw one of his memes back at him.
I think his whole routine started as sthcik;before he got the job in Sacramento, he showed no interest in Politics;he was a DJ and , for a while, a PR hack for the Kansas City Royals.
He saw, with the rise of Reagan, a chance to cash in on the conservative wave, and swiitched to politics.
But his huge sucess soon created a problem;a ton of imitators who though the way to sucess way to go even farther to the right then Rush, and Rush had to go even varther to the right to stay ahead. In his early days, he actually ridiculed Conspiracy Theories only to emgrace them later on.
I hope he is rotting in Hell because his did huge damaget to political discourse in the US, making it not about idead or even policy, but name calling and bobbasr. Glad to see the SOB go.

He peaked circa 2000, and has never regained the presence he had in the 90's.

Rush Limbaugh had unrelenting boldness to proclaim the truth. Watching his wit, passion, and willingness to hold the media accountable informed my entire career.
Growing up in Plant City, Florida, my dad would always play the Rush Limbaugh program in his pick-up truck...

My fellow classmates from my all girls Catholic school knew if they road in my car, we would be listening to Rush Limbaugh.
I am the definition of a “Rush Baby,” and it’s not just me. There are tens of thousands of us all across the conservative movement...

He has built a legacy that will endure for many generations to come and will continue to inform our country.
Thank you, Rush, for all you have done for this nation. The United States of America is better because of you.

“the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons."

“Let go the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

Truly a great man.

Yep, he's at least partially responsible for a whole generation of asshats.

The Imperial Wizard just didn't wear his pointed hat in public..

You see I think he was even worse than that.

There's no right way to be a racist for sure, but Rush struck me as someone who wasn't a racist because he personally developed a real hatred of black people, he was a racist because it tweaked the libs and because of that stupid "The Left is hyper sensitive about racism, so the Right has to be a little racist to balance it out" unspoken mentality that the Right has fostered in the last few decades.

Like... I don't think he cared or thought about black people enough to be racist in the classic sense.

It's not a better or less dangerous form of racism, if anything the opposite. A white person who hurt black people just to get under the skin of other white people is, in a weird way, almost more racist than someone who just hates black people. At least in the latter the black people are a major player in the narrative.

It is times like these that the left show their true levels of hypocrisy.

How so? What value have posters here put forward that they contradict in this thread?

Personally I feel I've been somewhat consistent in my opinion of Mr. Limbaugh. No contradiction there. I've never expressed that the death of a terrible person was a moment that criticism should end. I don't believe I can remember encountering a poster on either side of the aisle here who maintained a general prohibition on speaking ill of the dead.

Specifically, what is the value that you're seeing hypocrisy on? Show your work, give examples. Link to the relevant posts.

Because I highly suspect it's based on strawmen, but I'm ready to be proven wrong.

He was an awful person, but I won't celebrate his death, because it happened far too late.
