Rule of Land or Rule of Blood?

In present times, I think giving citizenship to anyone born in the country even if they are a the children of tourists or temporary workers, is silly. Citizenship should be inherited from other citizens.

How far does that go though? As I mentioned, my kids are irish on account of descent but nobody in the family has lived there since 1946. There are currently Koreans in Japan who's families have been there since WWII aren't citizens of japan.

In reality there should be some sort of mixed system, which is true of most countries an rate.

Agreed. I think a system where you inherit citizenship, but you must pay taxes to the country for a minimum number of years in order to give citizenship to your kids, and or you must have actually lived in the country for a certain number of years in order to give citizenship to your children, would be fair. Otherwise we have people who have never lived in a country or pay taxes to the country for centuries but are still citizens.

Depends on what the country actually wants and needs, in terms of population growth.

But what's wrong with legal residents only?

Nothing. Problem I have with much of the anti immigration movement is it is based on race, frankly.

Oddly, I just discovered that actress, Anya Taylor-Joy is an anchor baby. Apparently she was born in the US while here parents were vacationing in Florida. It seems a bit silly that she's a US citizen on account of that but no more silly than by kid being an Irish Citizen.

Nicole Kidman is a Anchor Baby. Born in Hawaii when her parents on were on vacation from Australia, and her mom gave birth a few weeks before was due.
