RSL in hospital

http://www.giveme5forstroke.org/patients/

This is a reasonably good stroke awareness campaign now being run by the American Academy of Nurology and the American College of Emergency Physicians and American Heart Association. Good advice about understanding when a stroke has occured and how victims and friends and family should react....

I really wish you weren't having to go through this terrible time of uncertainty. This just stinks. Please do take the time to eat and sleep and let others help. If there is anything at all I can do please PM me. Robert has been instrumental in my recovery from the effects of my foolishness with Novus Spiritus. I will gladly do whatever I can to help. In the meantime you and Robert are in my thoughts - I hope that any damage can be overcome with good care and the strength of your relationship.

Take good care,
Ian

Not much for me to say that hasn't allready been said...
Best wishes RSL and Mrs RSL.

Susan,

There are times in life when wish I had the certainty of faith to believe that a benevolent and loving G*d existed. That G*d would and could reach out to heal people. If I had such faith I would surely believe that Robert would receive that grace and healing. I honor your belief and will offer a prayer in the hope that, should such a being exist, your prayers and those of everyone who pray with you will have them answered.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I never cease to be impressed by Robert's work in skepticism, but also by his endearing and enduring humanism evident in every part of his life he shares on this forum.

He is one of the very few people that I have no doubt makes the world a better place for his being in it: a benefit, an example, and an inspiration to us all. We want him to be around for as long as possible.

My thoughts and best wishes are with you both,

Kell

Good morning.

I wish I had more to tell you. I believe I will just give you the possitives:

He sought out, found and squeezed my hand, all the while with his eyes closed. Two separate nurses (both male) told me that he can hear me, and that Robert is respnsive but you have to be insistant and loud to get his attention. His son spent some quality time with him yesterday, recalling his favorite "Dad" stories. His eldest daughter, the one who gave up her daughter in an open adoption, came down from Oregon yesterday. He squeezed her hand as well. His eldest sister came in last night and we will see her this morning. My church and his mom's church have prayer chains going. Our family is receiving such an outpouring of love and support that it brings us to tears.

God bless you all (whether you want it or not). I love you. I'll try to give you another update tonight.

Susan

Very very happy to hear that.. good progress :)

Thanks for the updates, Susan (and kitty, etc.)!

It sounds like things could have been much worse. And from the stories from other forum members, a favorable recovery should be forthcoming.

Again, all my best to you and Robert. Hang in there!!!

Susan: as a personal note...my father had a serious stroke several years ago. He is doing well -- one of the signs that we look back on as telling us he was going to come through it all was the hand squeeze. The hand squeeze is a good sign as are all forms of responsiveness. As I said earlier, there are some great rehabilitative therapies and therapists around these days. Make sure to look after yourself in these difficult days, he will need your strength and good health.

Susan,

Hang in there. I've had two family members with severe strokes recover completely from where it sounds like Robert is at right now. It was a long and difficult recovery process, but they're back as good as new now. Don't lose hope!

Susan and Robert,

To add our voice to the outpouring, Rebecca and I have you both in our thoughts, and will be anxiously following any news on Robert's recovery.

Helping every feeble neighbour,
Seeking help from none.

Kindness in another's trouble.
Courage in your own.

Be well, Robert and Susan.

RSL, you only need to be able to move one leg to kick ass.

Here’s hoping for the best.

I think that it's great that he's squeezing your hands! I hope he remembers his experiences so he can tell us all about them. Jill Bolte-Taylor's experiences were very fascinating: http://spacesuityoga.wordpress.com/...ce-afterglow-jill-bolte-taylor-and-the-brain/
I think she's recently finished a book, and I heard her on NPR and TED talks.

I am eager to hear RSL tell us of his. I was lucky to get him to sign his picture in my skepdude calendar-- He is a real hero of mine just as he is of many people here. Thanks for all updates on his progress, Susan.

Ugh! I didn't notice this post until just now! All the best wishes, as well as trust in modern medicine, for Robert's swift recovery!

Susan,

Again, there isn't a great deal to add here. I simply want to add my well wishes to those here, and add those of Noblecaboose's as well. We both hold Robert in such high esteem and cannot describe him as anything less than an inspiration.

Kind regards,

Athon

"...be a good guy, 'cause there's way too many of the bad."

Robert is impossible to dislike. He's brilliant, thoughtful, polite, caring, honest, sincere, patient, yet still strong-willed and determined to do the right thing. A truly good man, one of the few around. What's not to love? I wish I were half as calm, kind and patient as he is. He's an example all skeptics should follow.

I sincerely wish him the speediest recovery.

Robert is impossible to dislike.

Unless you're Sylvia Browne or Kaz! :D

Well, my personal feelings are that almost no one- practically no one- is "impossible to dislike". There are real reasons to dislike Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi.

But Robert is a terrific person and a complete gentleman. I can't praise him enough for his work. Even when I've disagreed with him on one point or another, I've never lost any respect or admiration for him.

Thank you for the update, Susan. It's much appreciated.

Ditto what Ian said.

Hang in there, Susan!
