RSL in hospital

I'm going to send a card, but it will take about two weeks to get there, and by then his recovery is being considered a near miracle, and he'll be posting here about how much he loves us, Susan, and how much more he loves life now. I'm absolutely sure of that.

Oh man, i had no idea about the adoption story. Yet another reason to love this man.

Sending all my best wishes to you all.

Go for it anyway! I'm sending a card even though I live on the other end of the country and, as you said, it will take a long time by which he will most likely be better anyway.

It's always nice to hear from a friend and always nice to get wishes, however belatedly.

Is there anything better than the look on RSL's face (or the look on his beard, more rather) as he was holding his granddaughter? RSL always seems to effortlessly come across as a great grandfather, a wonderful person and a model skeptic.

All my best for a quick recovery, RSL.

Thanks Susan, for being sweet and keeping us posted when you probably have plenty else to do right now.

Take care.

So, so sorry to hear this! I'm such an admirer of both of yours.

I'm not a neurologist, but I've worked with stroke patients. "Shifting to the left" may mean that there's swelling or bleeding on the right side of the brain that's pushing the tissue to the left. Usually when I've seen it in a chart it's used more as a confirmation of the presence of a bleed than a prognostic indicator, though there are particular patterns of symptoms associated with swelling that may go away as the swelling resolves. Definitely ask the doctors about it!

No real flowers allowed, but I suppose I can offer virtual ones. :rose::rose::rose:

Hope he gets well soon. His will be hard shoes to fill if he is not on his feet.

My prayers and good wishes to Robert and his family for speedy and full recovery.

Yes RL, I know you don't believe. ;) But I do, so there! :p

I'm sorry to hear abour Robert - I saw him at TAM and said hello. I wish him well for a quick recovery. And I feel for you, his wife. It's tough to be the patient's spouse.

My good thoughts are with you both!

Thanks a lot!

For newer forumites who don't know much about Robert, here's a good place to start:Adoption, Strangers & Family. It's one of my all-time favourite JREF posts.
And here's Robert and Susan on their wedding day.
Hurry and and get well, Robert!

Now you did it, Sophia8! But at least these are happy tears now.

I knew RSL was cool, but that post was just the living end...

Susan, best wishes to you both! Sometimes being the caregiver is the harder job. Also, be aware that while he may seem quite lucid at times in the CCU, he may not remember the conversations later. So be prepared to repeat stuff a lot.

My hopes and thoughts are with you, MK

My problems just became trivial.

Speedy recovery Robert, and best wishes to you Susan.

It's been a long time since I've been here, and I'm sorry to hear this. I've admired his work from afar for a long time. I hope he gets better really soon!

Susan,

One of our mutual friends, A.S., just called me and told me the news. I was shocked and saddened.

I can't say it any better than it's already been said, but your man is a diamond among gems, a true gentleman, and possessing an enormous heart.

A.S. and I will be doing our thing, and looking to hear positive progress reports about our hero.

Hugs across the miles,
Kelly

I am so, so sorry to hear this, and please know that my very best thoughts and hopes are with you all. I've no idea what I can do to help, but if there is anything at all, you've only to say the word.

Many hugs.

Thanks so much for the update, Susan. I'm eating my lucky M&Ms for him!
