Maybe this is his way of kicking off the 150Th Anniversary of the Civil War events....

As a Long time Civil War Buff, I am familiar with Di Lorenzo and he is as big a nutjob as he sounds.

Let;s have a guy who thinks that the Founder of the Republican Party is a mass murderer and a Hitler equivilent tesitify on the first day you are chairman...great going Ron.

I would love to hear what the GOP leadership in private is saying about this. Probably hoping that Paul retires real or is too ill to continue real soon....

Eggcellent!!!

The DNC inside-job is working perfectly!!

Soon, the Tea-Party and other buffoons will make a mockery of Congress, forcing the American people to re-elect Obama and give the House back to the Dems in 2012.

I suspect they are calculating that the odds of the average voter caring are limited and that they will gain more votes by being nice to Paul's fanbase (a good chunck of whom likely wouldn't vote at all otherwise) they will lose due to Paul making a more obvious fool of himself than ususal.

Agreed, but I think they might be calculating wrong. The Dems will make sure the average voters hears about Paul's antics.

I think having Paul as chairman of that committee is going to be very entertaining.

One of his witnesses thinks we should go back to the gold standard:
An alternative was proposed by the second witness, Richard Vedder of Ohio University: "Our economy achieved economic supremacy in the world from 1871 to 1914 - a period of the gold standard, stable prices and no central bank." The current system, he argued, creates bubbles, although he declined to speculate about what sort of bubble would come next.
"I think economists who make predictions are foolish," he said.

A few minutes later, Rep. Al Green (D-Tex.) asked what would happen if we returned to the gold standard. "I think we'd be in a better place," Vedder predicted.

"Now what did you say about people who make predictions?" Green reminded him.

"I said, 'Some economists make bad predictions, some of them make good predictions,'" Vedder answered.

"You said they were foolish," Green informed him.

"Foolish?" Vedder replied.

I was expecting that from Paul...his crazy economics are well known. But his starting off with a Rabid "The South was Right" crackpot Historian was a little unexpected. It indicates that we have a much wider variety of kooks then just the Goldbugs on tap from Chairman Ron.

You have to wonder if the GOP leadership is going to try to rein him in at some point.

Next thing, he'll have Alex Jones.

The GOP leadership is having a lot of problems reining in their extreme wing at the moment.....

Just as we planned

Soon the world will know the meaning of... SOCIALISM! ;)

No surprise here. Anyone remember who wrote the Ron Paul newsletters?

It was Lew Rockwell. Try Googling Lew Rockwell and Lincoln. You'll find all kinds of Anti-Lincoln propaganda. Di Lorenzo comes up near the top of the list.
A taste:
Lincoln Unmasked

by Thomas J. DiLorenzo

After the publication of my 2002 book, The Real Lincoln, I continued to research and write on the topic. Among the things I've learned since then is that Abraham Lincoln was a far worse tyrant than I portrayed him as being in that book. A thousand times worse.

I've also learned that there is only one genuine Lincoln scholar in America — David Donald — and he's retired. The rest are all Lincoln cultists and court historians. The cultists, like Harry Jaffa and his merry band of Straussians, ignore actual American history, fabricate a false history, or dabble in semantics and word games in order to portray The Great Centralizer as a god-like figure. They routinely refer to him as "Father Abraham" and compare him to Jesus or Moses. They do this because their agenda is not only the deification of Lincoln, but of executive power and nationalism in general.
. . .

A taste:

Di Lorenzo is regarded by the overwhelming number of Civil War Historians the same way David Irving is regarded by World War 2 Historians:A hopeless nutcase, not to be taken seriously.
Some aspects of Lincoln record can be criticised;(I think his use of Martial Law in some situations where the Civil Authority was fully functional was quistionable) but Di Lornenzo is beyond legit criticism in sheer moonbattery.
Ironic that Di Lorenzo cites David Donald, since Donald was scathing concerning the Anti Lincoln Neo Confederates.....

no that's Xanatos from Gargoyles IIRC, who's basically a much smarter Mr Burns.

The Tea Party movement is part of a Xanatos Gambit by the DNC?

I wish Xanatos was real and a Dem.

EDIT: Or this link if you want that same picture used and an entire slew of gambits. Or don't. It all benefits me in the end. Mwahaha.

From the link:
DiLorenzo, a self-proclaimed historical revisionist, is entitled to say whatever he likes. But it raises doubts about Ron Paul and his causes if this is the best he can come up with for his first act as chairman of the Financial Services Committee's monetary policy subcommittee.
Are they serious? Raises doubts about Paul? Where have they been the last decade?
