Team Romney Gives Ted Nugent The Rush Limbaugh Treatment

During a panel discussion at the NRA convention in St. Louis on Sunday, Nugent went on a tirade about President Obama and Democrats in general. Right Wing Watch posted the video:

Nugent called President Obama a criminal and denounced his “vile, evil America-hating administration” which is “wiping its ass with the Constitution.” Taking it a step further, he said that “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” “If you can’t galvanize and promote and recruit people to vote for Mitt Romney, we’re done,” he continued.
. . .
Romney reportedly actively sought Nugent’s endorsement and announced it to great fanfare when it came. Democrats blanched, pointing to Nugent’s long history of disturbing rhetoric aimed at President Obama and other prominent Democrats.
. . .
During the Fluke affair, Romney distinguished himself by issuing a remarkably tepid denunciation of Limbaugh, even as many of his fellow Republicans turned on the radio host. “I’ll just say this, which is, it’s not the language I would have used,” he said.
. . .
Team Romney said essentially the same thing in response to Nugent’s remarks:

“Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from,” Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul told TPM. “Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.”

It's not even a condemnation. Compared to how quickly and clearly Obama's team distanced themselves from Hillary Rosen's comparatively benign comments about Ann Romney, it's not even in the same category.

And there's celebrity Birther Donald Trump, another wingnut who Romney went out of his way to court his endorsement, saying he was "delighted" to be endorsed by Trump.

“Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil” rings pretty hollow coming from a man who sought the endorsement of these very uncivil clowns and refuses to condemn their uncivil statements.

it's ridiculous that the NRA has anything to do with nugent too, since he's been convicted of illegally baiting deer while hunting.

Looks like I will be voting for Obama now.

All we have to do is vote Obama and Nugent goes away?

Christmas came early!

Ah, good 'ol Ted.

I was a moderator at a firearms forum for 8 years. The way the large percentage of gun-owning, conservative, Christian right rally behing Ted Nugent is amazing. "But he's a hunter! He's a gun owner! He's a Christian! He's a consevative!"

I do appreciate all he does for the troops via USO and his outdoors programs for kids.

The funny thing about his supporters is that if there were a liberal democrat personality as loud-mouthed as Nugent who went out of his way to dodge a draft and openly admitted his fondness for underage women, they'd work themselves up into a frenzy over it.

I'm a gun owner and an active bow hunter. Ted Nugent does not speak for me. Dead or in jail? I'd be happy either way. Let's see if he keeps his word.

As a gun owner, hunter and a veteran of the U.S. Army, I think Ted Nugent's chicken hawk act is disgusting. I can think of a lot of words to describe his comments but "patriotic" isn't one of them.

All Romney needs not is for Sheriff Joe to drop his Rick Perry endorsement for Romeny.

Trump, Nugent and Arpaio, it would be the birther trifecta of wingnuttery.

Then Pat Boone, Kirk Cameron and maybe even Victoria Jackson could pile on.

It would be an orgy of stupid.

Pat Boone! That's some old-timey stupid right there.

Pat Boone! That's some old-timey stupid right there.

I hadn't read the post above this one so I assumed you were using Pat Boone as a curse, e.g. "Pat Boone that's stupid!" or "Pat Boone! What am I going to do now?"

I will use it as such from now on.

Right wing radio hosts have been denouncing Obama for not denouncing Bill Maher and telling an Obama super-pac to return the 1 million dollars Maher donated (though it would be illegal, I believe, for Obama to direct the super-pac to do pretty much anything) for calling Palin a c-word at a stand-up gig and for other various pokes at her.

I'm anxious to hear the Right call for Romney to disassociate himself with Nugent. After all, this is the guy who call Hillary Clinton a "worthless bitch".

Ahhhh yes... Teddy... sort of like Rush Limbaugh minus a few hundred pounds, but with a keener instinct for whipping people into a frenzy.

I think we should buy Nugent a SHARP chainsaw.

I'd like to see him rig up some elaborate Saw-style contraption with that M-60 he has. (Dibs on that thing, by the way...Waco's not a far drive for me).

Oh ew! Ew ew ew ew ewww! I need some brain bleach to blind my mind's eye after that mental image!

OK people. If you ever needed a reason to vote for Obama, this is it. We can finally get rid of Nugent.

Don't let me down!!!

PS. Darned, daredelvis beat me to it. Still. Worth repeating like a campaign ad.

I like it. "What the Pat Boone is wrong with you, Ted Nugent?!"

Sophistry.

It's so vacuous and so sweeping It's hard to find a lot of intelligent commentary coming from the Right. It's tempting to call republicans "republitards" based on the level of stupidity eminating from the right. But that would be unfair.

I was once a big fan of the Nuge. Embarrassing.

Ted Nugent is a shill for the GOP, nothing more. If he really was the staunch defender of gun rights he claims to be, he wouldn't be endorsing Mitt Romney.
