Hutch
A broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barret
OK, there seems to be an interest in rollercoaster rides, so it looks like it has fallen to ol' Hutch to work something out (it's hell when you get a reputation for organization, folks--never try running anything!).
There are two choices in town, the Manhattan Express at the New York, New York Casino: http://www.nynyhotelcasino.com/entertainment/entertainment_therollercoaster.aspx and Speed: the Coaster near the Saraha: http://saharavegas.com/NASCAR/SPEED-facts
I've ridden Speed before, and it is a good, albeit rather short, coaster, good for first-times and those who have not ridden coasters much. The Manhattan Express is much larger, longer, and higher and does it all above the busiest corner of Las Vegas. However, coaster reviews say it is very rough on the riders and not all that much fun as a ride.
One other option is about 30 miles away, in Primm, NV: http://www.primmvalleyresorts.com/family.php which has the height but apparently not the inversions of the Manhattan Express. It will take more time and hours of operation are not posted.
Opinions are sought. I have even added a poll for voters. As for when, the coasters are open until 10PM (Speed) and Midnight (Manhattan Express). Since Thursday night is pretty much filled with Poker and Bowling, Friday or Saturday evening may be our best option(s)--I don't think anyone wants to go rollercoastering in 100F heat....
So check out the sites, look for reviews on the web, and let me know.
PS--One vote for the Manhattan Express may come from the following, if Articulett and Doctor Adequate are still mulling over locations for their wedding:
