Roger Waters promotes 9/11 conspiracy theories...

As an aside, did anyone else see the theatrical IMAX release of the restored and remastered Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii when it cam out?
Yup,

It was great. The entire cinema was absolutely quiet during the entire (*) show.
I had warned the mrs about 'careful with that axe Eugene', so she would be prepared. (she told me later that at first she was puzzled by my warning as 'it was the most accessible piece of music till that point , so what was erwinl talking abou.... OH MY GOD!!! WHAT IS ROGER WATERS DOING NOW???')

Her verdict was as follows.
'I do now see what you find and feel in the music of Pink Floyd, I hadn't understood that before'(**)
'But!!! After that screaming number, That sick albatross song and all that vague turning buttons on instruments for 10-15 minutes (***) and just listening to a change in tone, you're going to pay.'
'I didn't walk out of the cinema, that means that you owe me! and you owe me big'

(*)
Well except for during Mademoiselle Nobs, that is.
(**)
She's more into rhythmic and swing music.

It might just be, that she didn't quite enjoy that part.

I've never liked the Pompeii film
It's tedious. I don't think I've made it to the end.

Dave Gilmour's 2016 concert from Pompeii is good though.

As much as I like Floyd, I find it hard to argue with the description of part of their live show as 'putting a brick on a keyboard and tuning up for twenty minutes'.

And what would those questions be, exactly?

Oh, and if you're in Cambridge on 9, October...

Rob Chapman wrote a book about Syd. (Other than the one already mentioned in the poster.)

A lot of Syd's generation are going to be leaving the building in the coming years.

ETA: I received a double L.P. yesterday called 'Fifth Pipedream [San Francisco Sound]' (Matthew Katz) and the artwork by Donna Wallace is amazing. She did a lot of the Avalon Ballroom psychedelic posters, not dissimilar to the above.

So was Ummagumma "brilliant" or a commercial pop cash grab?
It wasn't one of the records I chose to bring with me when I relocated.

Of all the bands I ever saw, including,
Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Van Morrison, Love (1990's version), Hawkwind, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Status Quo, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Kinks, Stranglers, k.d. lang, Loreena McKennit, Ray Charles, Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band, Roy Harper, Tom Robinson Band, Rory Gallagher, Christy Moore, etcetera, etcetera,

I never once saw Pink Floyd.

I saw them in the 90s at Earls Court, can't rent which of the 14 nights it was.

1975 in Vancouver. The first show of that tour. They opened with 2 new pieces that would become Dogs and Sheep on Animals. All of WYWH except Welcome to the Machine. Then DSOTM complete. And Echoes for an encore. The band at their absolute peak! There is a decent, not great, quality recording of the complete show on archive.org.

Saw 'em twice.

Once at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester (long before it was turned into a hotel!) - Atom Heart Mother Tour, with the John Aldiss mob. Couldn't get to the bar in the interval for DJs and posh frocks! Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast was... interesting live.

Second time at the Odeon, Newcastle upon Tyne (before they chopped it up into several small screens). DSOTM tour. With the 'Pentaphonic' PA system.

Pretty damn good both times.

So we won't see you here for months because of odd jobs around the house then?

I once walked up and down Oxford Street wearing a sandwich board advertising Stiff Records, so if anybody wants to know the inner thoughts of Elvis Costello on 9/11 conspiracy theories, I'm your man.

Heh, Blackhill Enterprises initially wanted us to wear sandwich boards but then changed their mind and gave as posters instead. At least it wasn't following Hare Krishna along Oxford Street, although I met one of those Krishna guys who managed to 'escape' from them.

Unbelievable.

In the end it cost me the following.

‘I want us to go to that movie (pointing at The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman, which so happened to have a single reappearance in that theatre a few weeks afterwards)’
‘Some taking out for dinner would also be nice.’
‘And?….’
‘And I want to go there!’, pointing at a pamphlet for the Moulin Rouge musical.

In the end I thought this was all more than fair for what she had had to endure.
Got the absolutely very best seats for the musical as well (the ones where you’re actually sitting in the middle of the podium, with the performance being all around you).

Get it straight from the horse's mouth* here (TL;short of time, try from 12:50 onwards):

Case due 14th - 15th Oct 2026.

*No reflection on Waters' face.
First lie: Within weeks, "thousands and thousands and thousands" of architects and physicists were saying it was a controlled demolition. After 25 years, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth has just over 1000 verified architects as signers of their petition calling for a new investigation, and about 300 signers who have some sort of a "physics" degree (that includes some clearly irrelevant subjects, such as geophysics and metaphysics).

Second lie: "Nobody with an IQ above room temperature disputes this." We have reports from, inter alia, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and Purdue University that absolutely dispute this.

Third lie: There has never been an investigation where the evidence was given in public before "a serious congregation of legal minds . . ." A majority of the members of the 9/11 Commission were lawyers, and the only testimony and evidence that were not publicly disclosed were classified for national security reasons.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention how much the crowd was into that pop commercial pap. All those songs got copious play on local AM radio for weeks after. The cut down 3 minute versions of course.

Our resident conspiracy fantasist just soaks that stiff up. It was in a video so it must be true!
