Ed Rob Menard's FOTL Claims

So here we have a group that is clearly opposed to this tax, wants everyone to refuse to pay the tax, is publicly endorsing civil disobedience to protest the tax, but who still say right up front that the FoTL arguments are BS.

Forget smackdowns by the courts, because they're "in on it"; this right here shows how much crap the FoTL position is.
QFT.

Yep.

This is what Menard and his ilk would look like if they were serious about trying to challenge the power of government in our lives. But doing it the real way is to much like hard work, I suppose.

Funny how Rob rushed to post this e-mail online for all to see, and yet when he is asked to provide an opinion or court order that supports FOTL he claims that he doesn't have it on him but will get to it later.

To assist due process, perhaps any and all contact information for the menard should be forward to the aforementioned law firm. Just a thought.

I seriously doubt he is the originator of this fraud. He's just a spectacularly credulous dupe fooled by it. Just a very high profile one.

The saddest thing about it is that Rob rather than engaging in his stupid sophistry, could actually build a Freeman Valley and demonstrate the superiority of his supposed "you cannot govern people without their consent" philosophy. Of course, given that he also is the purveyor of nonsense in which his deluded followers try and use to skip out on paying for things they use like power and now apparently meals, I have never had much hope for the success of Freeman Valley. Strangely enough if you want to change the unfair things in this world, you have to work hard for that change and not believe that there exist magic ways that society and the law have to obey your own personal philosophy.

I agree.

Bobbo isn’t the originator of anything. The worst our fez wearing boy is going get out of this is a cease and desist letter. Wishing to avoid daddy’s belt he will quietly abide. . .and then move on to his next “semenard“.

True, perhaps, but he has promulgated it, and likely knows it's origin, and therefore is a valid target of any investigation.

If someone were convicted of something because of these FOTL claims, i.e. theft, for not paying for something, wouldn't that make Rob Menard an accessory or co-conspirator? I do hope so.

I am not sure. It would depend on which jurisdiction such a prosecution occurred under.

Personally, I hope this legal firm goes at it with all guns blazing.

Im pretty sure it wont be long before Menard is given the option to use his "I don't consent" theory for real.
He is getting more and more desperate and his "holiday" from Ickes tells me that they are not going to be a party to his activities.

Lets hope the net is closing and once he is banged up it will simply show once and for all the stupidity of his ideas.
Maybe then this thread can find closure.

I wonder if our guy was influenced by them?

He hasn't mentioned them to my knowledge, I will bet my last dollar that he will once he reads your post.

More ammo for our Robs empty pistol. :)

Hmmmm, they are in BC ..... I wonder if he born into that community? lol

Edited to add. Question for our Canadians here. Is this group well known in Canada? I only came across them because I was researching an obscure bit of 19th century Russian history.

They're reasonably well known, getting a passing mention in some grade and high school text books (or did at least when I went to high school in the 80s). It was always presented as a group that presented some challenges to Canadian society but by doing the Canadian thing - ignoring them and getting on with the business of life until they disrupt the greater society - they just faded into the background.

You mean sent to jail, like this? Or do you mean for promulgating the FOTL theory?

ETA: As far as being well-known in Canada, they're virtually unheard of in the prairies. I'd never heard of the idea before coming to this forum. Since then, I've encountered it twice: Once in university, when a colleague was saying he had found a way to avoid paying his taxes (I showed him what I knew, but he remained convinced it was legal. He's in Alberta now, and I've no idea if he follows it), and today in the newspaper article linked above.

Well known to readers of Canadian historical minutiae of the early 60's maybe.

More people probably know about the origins of Winnie The Pooh (thanks, 'Heritage Minute"!)

eta: the band, Sons of Freedom were pretty keen,,,,

Yeah, it's one of those things where I think, "Damn, the name sounds familiar", but that's about it.

People out west might be more familiar with them, though, like with the Hutterites.

You never know in a few years people might be talking about the "Branch Menardians" and how their society crumbled when its leader disappeared with the funds.
