I was at work last night, doing my usual boring stuff and it occurred to me, were I to burgle a FMOTL's house, I could always say, "I didn't steal your stereo, Joe: Of The Family Jones. I stole JOE JONES' stereo. Don't snitch me out, 'kay?"

Getting locked up to prove you're a freeman seems somehow counter-intuitive.:)

I think he'll find that the ratio of martyrs vs believers is low, everyone admires martyrs but not too many wish to be lion kibbles.
 
Bit of an update. As predicted, today did not go how Hayes' crack legal team hoped it would. So he's now on hunger strike. Mind you, he does look as though he needs to lose some weight.

Thursday the 5th of July 2012, people gather at Manchester civic Justice centre (sic) in support of Danny Bamping, who took an
affidavit from Roger Hayes in which he makes it clear he received no summons or
invitation to the hearing which resulted in the arrest warrant being issued.
Roger also makes it clear he was given no opportunity to speak at the
unlisted secret court hearing - a hearing which lasted just long enough to
the judge to utter the sentence.

Roger's actions were not a refusal to pay.

They were not a "tax protest". Roger is now on Hunger Strike in Liverpool prison.

They were, and always were, about a whole range of /constitutional/ issues.

Danny and his team submitted an application for Habeas Corpus the High Court in Manchester.

The Judge totally igored any points or facts made by Danny and merely railroaded the application - to cries of 'Shame' and Treason' by the people who witnessed this charade.

So you don't like the UK government's foreign policy and withhold your taxes? Well what about the parts that go on hospitals, school, roads etc? Is he not going to turn up at NHS A&E if he gets injured? Walk everywhere across open fields? Or is this just a faux morale veneer on good old fashioned sponging?
 
It's funny to see the cognitive dissonance kick in as they try to rationalize their utter failure with their belief that this is really the law.

Yeah and look at how the teeming masses support our FOTLer..I counted AT LEAST half a dozen people! A true show of force against The Evil Justice System!

I wonder what would happen if instead of using FOTL legal mythology they hired a real lawyer who knew what he was doing. I imagine if he threw himself on the mercy of the court, admitted falling for a scam, and agreed to a minimum payment plan for taxes owed. I bet you they would release him from jail or at the very lease reduce the sentence. Yet again, following FOTL legal mythology and using FOTL legal tactics ends up with someone being in a much worse position than they would be if they followed legal methods based in sanity.

Initially funny, it is actually somewhat sad that when confronted with the utter failure of the underlying concepts the FMOTL claim that the fail is the result of corruption and a failure of everyone else to recognize the correctness of their position. Pathetic really.

I have a growing concern about the self-delusion, dysfunction and denial of the freeman cult. I can’t look at that video without cringing at the insane lengths freemen have gone to.

Nothing good will come of it and I fear there is another tragedy awaiting us. I pray I am wrong.

Well the properly dangerous ones tend to live in countries where it's acceptable to carry a gun, wear camouflage gear and stock up on tinned foods for when the commies invade. I guess that would be the USA.

The Canadian marks are more likely to present danger by comedy.

The British ones... well. The most dangerous thing they'll achieve is tripping over their own shoe laces. They view Roger Hayes as a visionary after all.

As long as Menard has two or three people paying for his gibberish then he's good for expensive fatty breakfasts. And pot. And beer.

As I've said before, as conmen go Menard is really laughably bad at the game.
Hayes is just a prat.
 
I really laughed when our good friend and former private posited that his 30,000 ish freemen were a growing force in Canada.

If you accept that number and compare it to the 34 or so million Canucks these FMOTL are 0.088% of the population. A force that can be generally discounted. Not to say that the utter fallacy of their propositions shouldn't be exposed to prevent additional harm, but as a large scale threat it is a non-starter.
