RIP Castro

So, Bush didn't announce the $17 billion bailout in December of 2008?

Not only did he announce it, apparently he gave them a small loan that was to get them going while THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION COULD COME UP WITH A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION, can you understand that?
The Obama administration held the automakers to the deal but other than being in power when the final payment was made, Bush bailed them out. Your ignorance is becoming embarrassing.
No, as usual you're wrong again, the article I put up and the wiki article Trebuchet put up clearly states Obama was responsible for the auto bailout. So much so he even took credit for it, amazing huh.

You're revising history like the left loves to do.
Bush started two wars and left taxpayers to pay for them under Obama. Bush bailed out the banks resulting in millions of American taxpayers losing their homes. Bush sent the U.S. into one of their worst resessions in history. Bush took a record surplus under Clinton and turned it into a record debt in less than two years.

Yeah so what, Bush was a terrible president, Obama was worse.
Your bragging about Republican control of the White House, House, and Senate is rather premature if you look back in history. The results of that the last two times were disastrous.
Lol
Premature? It has happened, where have you been?
My side has the knowledge that we didn't support a racist, misogynistic, bigot for the Presidency of the U.S., making us douchebags by association.
Lol
Okay, the typical answer from a losing side. ;)
But I am Canadian and very happy about this. Everytime the U.S. elects a Republican president the U.S. becomes less competitive in areas of science, technology, and medicine. The last time Canada made up a lot of ground to become leaders in those areas. I think once Trump and tge good old boys return the U.S. to the 1600s, you will have fallen so far behind you will never catch up.
Your country will still be a pimple on our ass no matter who is president and it will ALWAYS be that way. ;)

The true honest voice of crude imperialism. All the stuff British imperialists used to spout was drivel. If they believed it themselves they were idiots. Here's that fool Kipling bestowing fatherly advice on the Americans after they took the Philippines from Spain.

Take up the White Man's burden, Send forth the best ye breed
Go bind your sons to exile, to serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness, On fluttered folk and wild—
Your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half-devil and half-child ...

Take up the White Man's burden, The savage wars of peace—
Fill full the mouth of Famine And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly Bring all your hopes to nought.

Etc etc.

Now if Kipling had only known that Uncle Sam thought the Dominion of Canada was a mere pimple on his bum, I'm sure he wouldn't have been as friendly.

But the arrogance of it all is definitely pathological.

But you wern't whining about his insults to your own country? All I did was bring him back to reality. Nothing to do with the Socialist BS of imperialism.

I'm not whining about anything.

I especially liked this part;

These preparations were financed by the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, whereby France ceded her huge North American territories to the United States in return for a payment of 50 million French francs ($11,250,000). The entire amount was spent on the projected invasion. The United States had partly funded the purchase by means of a loan from Baring Brothers, a British bank.[6]
Another way to look at it is that France scraped up some money by hocking the family jewels, a deal the U.S. couldn't resist, and the UK lent the U.S. the cash.

The UK financed the French against the UK.

Seems about right.

Yep. Wouldn't be the first time. During the Dutch 80-years independence war against Spain, the economy flourished from world-wide trade. Guess who was at times the major trading partner?

The Netherlands severed their political union with their main trading partner. Scotland entered a political union in 1707 with its fourth largest trading partner, England. There was more Scottish trade with Netherlands, France and Scandinavia at that time.

Goodness Craig, let it go.

Well you had a Dutch king for awhile. :D

(and where's this elusive country Scandinavia? There hadn't been political unity on that subcontinent for nearly 200 years)

Indeed so.
O fie, Mackay, what gart ye lie
I' the bush ayont the brankie, O?
Ye'd better kiss'd King Willie's loof,
Than come to Killicrankie, O.
It's nae shame, it's nae shame,
It's nae shame to shank ye, O;
There's sour slaes on Athol braes,
And deils at Killicrankie, O.

No, but the arrangement of countries on that peninsula kept changing, and only assumed its present state in 1905. Norway was passed from Denmark to Sweden, and a significant part of Sweden - Scania - was a Danish province too.
