Riots, looting, vandalism, etc.

Joey Gibson, leader of Washington state extremist group Patriot Prayer, will shortly be going to trial over his involvement in his group's attack on the bar Cider Riot.

This incident, made famous by fascist propagandist Andy Ngo, was originally portrayed as a spontaneous fight between Patriot Prayer and antifascists at the bar. An inside informant later produced video showing that the attack was premeditated by the right wing group. Andy Ngo was present during the planning of the attack and did not include any of this in his original reporting.

Several members of Patriot Prayer were indicted for the attack, some have already plead guilty.

Gibson's trial for felony riot begins March 8th.

Backstabbing popgun pansies. Mano a mano, one on one, totally useless in matched combat. Only armed and in lynch mobs can they man up, not knowing it's actually cowarding down. Dunces in the world's idiot corner. Pathetic.

Republican lawmakers in the Oklahoma House approved a bill to grant immunity to drivers who hit protesters.

On a party-line vote, the House passed a bill that grants civil and criminal immunity for drivers who unintentionally injure or kill protesters while “fleeing from a riot.”

Lawmakers say they are trying to address instances of violence or extreme disruption, but activists believe lawmakers instead chose to criminalize those who already feel targeted by police.

Mainstream press complaining about their illegal treatment at the hands of riot cops.

Brian Stelter said:
CNN producer Carolyn Sung was wrongfully arrested by Minnesota state troopers on Tuesday night. This letter from a group of media outlets describes how she was mistreated and held for more than two hours

As is common in these protests against police brutality, there is no shortage of video and pictures showing the cops openly targeting journalists for violence or arrest.

One useful result of these protests that devolve into police riots, is that the mainstream press gets a first hand taste of how policing is actually done in these communities. By extension, people not living in these heavily policed communities get some understanding in how vicious the police tactics actually are. People living in more affluent communities are learning, through such footage, the real impact of "law and order" policies they have supported in the past.

Every time the police murder a citizen, they descend onto the community like an occupying army, pepperspraying and shooting rubber bullets at the press who dare cover the police riot as a news story. Coupled with the bodycam or other footage showing police using extraordinary force in their day to day interaction with the community, the reputation and impunity of the police is slowly eroding.

State of emergency declared in anticipation of release of bodycam from police killing in N. Carolina.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Elizabeth City, North Carolina, has declared a state of emergency ahead of the release of body camera footage of the law enforcement killing of Andrew Brown Jr. last week.

The 42-year-old was shot and killed by deputies last Wednesday during the execution of a search warrant. Witnesses have said Brown was driving away at the time and deputies fired several rounds, killing him.

After the shooting, seven deputies were placed on administrative leave and three resigned. The three who resigned were not directly involved in the shooting, Pasquotank Sheriff Tommy Wooten said. One was nearing retirement.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis couple who gained notoriety for pointing guns at social justice demonstrators pleaded guilty Thursday to misdemeanor charges, but the man left the courthouse defiantly pledging to “do it again” if faced with the same circumstances.

Patricia McCloskey pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment and was fined $2,000. Her husband, Mark McCloskey, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and was fined $750. They also agreed to give up the weapons they used during the confrontation.

The James Alex Fields Jr. Protection Act.

I don't think there's any real dispute that Fields hit people with his car on purpose. His actions would not be protected by this or similar legislation.

The people making all of the excuses for him in the Charlottesville thread disprove your claim.

I have no interest in diving into that thread to verify your statement, but I said a real dispute. Delusional idiots on an internet forum don't count. The police didn't think it was unintentional. The prosecutor didn't think it was unintentional. The jury didn't think it was unintentional. The judge didn't think it was unintentional. Hell, even Fields himself doesn't even claim it was unintentional.

The Oklahoma law would not protect him. That is unambiguous.

Anyone hitting a crowd of demonstrators is going to say it was unintentional.
this is a 'get out'.

Much belated murder charge for Army Sargant Daniel Perry who shot and killed a BLM protestor July 2020.

An Army sergeant has been indicted in Austin on a murder and deadly conduct charge in the shooting death of Black Lives Matter protestor Garrett Foster in a case that deepened debates about protestor safety, self defense and the right to openly carry guns.

Sgt. Daniel Perry has turned himself in and has been released from jail on bond in the July 2020 shooting. Foster was carrying an assault-style rifle and witnesses have differing accounts about whether he raised it at Perry. Perry’s attorney has said he fired in self defense.

The videoed umbrella man shown breaking the windows of an Autozone in Minneapolis turns out to member of a white supremacist group called the Aryan Cowboys.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.

Christensen, the arson investigator, said police identified the suspect after an emailed tip last week. The tipster described the man as someone who "wanted to sow discord and racial unrest by breaking out the windows and writing what he did on the double red doors."

Police did not reveal exactly how they corroborated the tip, but they said the man also was present during "an incident in Stillwater Minnesota where a Muslim woman was racially harassed by a group of motorcycle club members wearing Aryan Cowboy leather vests."

Maybe. But that sort of information sounds more like a lead than a positive ID. Note that no charges have been filed yet, and the story doesn't even reveal the suspect's name.

The last time someone purportedly identified "umbrella man", it turned out to be wrong.

I didn't notice it the first time, but the date on that story is 30 July 2020. It's over a year old.

Very little substantial has since been reported. Here's a follow-up story from earlier this year (June 2, 2021):

What’s up with ‘Umbrella Man’

About two months after the AutoZone incident, a suspect’s name was unmasked by a search warrant, which led to a brief blizzard of news coverage.

But nobody has been arrested or charged since then.

That includes the 33-year-old rural Minnesota man who was identified in the July 27 search warrant application seeking his cell phone records. The warrant was granted, but the Reformer is not identifying the man because he has not been charged.

In the search warrant records, Minneapolis police investigator Erika Christensen said authorities were tipped off about the man’s identity.
. . .

The man whose cell phone records were sought is said to be a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang and “known associate” of the Aryan Cowboys white supremacist prison gang based in Minnesota and Kentucky. He was photographed with a group wearing Aryan Cowboy leather vests in Stillwater harassing a Muslim woman on June 27 of last year, according to the search warrant.

The search warrant sought the suspect’s cell phone activity and cell tower “pings” on the day of the AutoZone incident. The man, who has a lengthy criminal history, did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder said “It remains an open case and is still being investigated” and could not comment on whether the man listed in the search warrant is a suspect.

“The investigator has not authorized the release of information on the case as this remains an open investigation,” Elder said via email.

So this refers to that story, but over a year after the search warrant was issued, nobody has been arrested, which makes me think that there is likely not sufficient evidence against this individual.

It seems somebody broke a window in Portland and that was about the extent of the property damage, despite large marches held in several major cities.
