Riots, looting, vandalism, etc.

1) In a scene that played out several times Monday, a Black Lives Matter protest that began in Columbia Heights confronted White diners outside D.C. restaurants, chanting “White silence is violence!” and demanding White diners show their solidarity. #DCProtests

They are not practicing social distancing. They are literally just screaming in the face of a lady who is just sitting there minding her own business.

Where the goddam everloving **** is the "gotcha" supposed to be in "Look! Look! We can find an example of someone promoting this message in a douchebag way! Guess that means the entire movement is invalid!"

"But we never promised to stop coordinating with 'militias' that murder you. You once lit a dumpster on fire, and not for spring break or a sportsball team.

No, we won't arrest your murderers either."

I'm not sure you even get it. This lady was just sitting there minding her own business. What did she do to deserve this?

No you don't get it.

I'm not saying (given the context of the incident and the information I have as of the writing of the post) the woman did anything to deserve anything. I'm not saying the people screaming at her are good.

I'm saying it has nothing to do with the cost of tea in China.

Call me when they put 27 warning shots in her back while she's sleeping and don't even get charged.

I'm saying stop going "BUT WAIT! STOP TALKING ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE BEING MURDERED IN THE STREETS UNTIL WE TALK ABOUT THIS ONE INCIDENT OF A PROTESTER GOING TOO FAR!"

And yes that is what you are doing.

In this situation, these "freedom fighters", as someone described them earlier, are using methods of protesting that should not be criticized too harshly. They are highly effective at persuading people to reelect 45. For that, I applaud them.

I have to disagree with the earlier generations of the black power movement and say that, in fact, the revolution will be televised and last nights episode was comedy gold.

Good thing to focus on. It’s not like we have armed right wing militias roaming the streets and engaging in vigilantism with tacit approval from the police.

America is a country that is armed to the teeth and has over 300 million people. For every 100 people, there's 120 guns. Unfortunate police incidents are inevitable. It's not good, but it's an inconvenient reality that can't be wished away.

Do you want to abolish the police? Do you think that will solve the problems or just create an even bigger problem? The police officer who allegedly killed Floyd is under arrest and facing a murder charge? What more do you want?

There's over 15,000 homicides in the US every year. Maybe 1,500 killed by police, whether justified or unjustified. Of those, the majority are white people. Most of them are also both legal and justified (self defense, etc.). Those like the George Floyd killing are only a tiny fraction of all murders in the USA. The response is disproportionate. That's what you apparently don't get.

Exactly.

Now moving on to the truly important issue: Why did those people yell at that one lady?

What gun? George Floyd didn't have a gun. Breonna Taylor didn't have a gun. So they're dead because of some hypothetical guns they didn't even have?

I won't bother showing you scenes of white people getting up in cop's faces with guns and not getting shot because I'm sure you already have excuses ready why that's different.

Do you want to abolish the police?

No. I want them to stop murdering people in the streets, in broad daylight, on film and getting away with it while an army of people on the internet explain to me why it's not a problem.

The police officer who allegedly killed Floyd is under arrest and facing a murder charge? What more do you want?

1. For that to be the rule and not a fluke.
2. For it to happen without needing a massive protest.

Do you think Chauvin and all his accomplices would have been charged the same way, or at all, had there not been such an immediate and extreme backlash from the community?

Allow me to answer your question by ignoring your question and asking you a different question (which you ignored):

Do you want to abolish the police? Do you think that will solve the problems or just create an even bigger problem?

I'm not familiar enough with the total abolishment plan to dismiss it entirely, but I tend to lean towards a significant defunding, with total elimination of many unnecessary police services (school cops, cops for traffic accidents, etc) and allocating that money to services that actually help the community and reduce violence. The police have revealed themselves to be especially unfit to deal with many of the social ills that they currently do, and their quick reliance on violence shows that they have very limited utility for dealing with complicated social ills.

I don't think the question I asked is unreasonable. Chauvin himself may have been charged without a protest, but it seems exceedingly likely that it wouldn't have been murder, and that his 3 accomplices would not have been charged at all. Do you disagree?

Because they're part of a mob, and they want the thrill of exercising power by demanding obedience and conformity under threat of violence.

Long time reader, extremely rare poster.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused. Could you clarify something for me:

Why are you bringing the police into this?

Indeed. To spread COVID? They might kill people with their spittle while they are screaming in their faces.

Do you know the woman in question?

You seem weirdly preoccupied with the well-being of this one person, made even more weird after you expressed your lack of concern for all the people actually dying at the hands of the police.

Welcome to another ISF thread full of whataboutisms, fringe resets twice per page, "trigger the libs with their own phrases", and a few brief moments of unmasked bigotry.
