My understanding was that in his last campaign he suffered exhaustion and headaches because of all the stress of looking and being perfect all the time.

He's probably needed graduated lenses for a while.

I didn't know about the headaches. I also assumed that it was supposed to give him a softer edge and maybe look a little more intellectual and disarming.
