Speaking of getting things wrong. The Ft. Hood Texas shooting back a few weeks ago.

Many news networks reported that the shooter was killed. It was only till the next day (IIRC) that is was reported that he was ALIVE, and in FACT NOT dead.

In NYC, correct? Would not a person who is in the business of news reporting and living in that city be somewhat more likely to know the names and shape of prominent structures in that city?

As for missing segments, nope I don't wonder. I work with video editing and storage systems daily and can assure you , stuff happens. Just today a video I had edited yesterday was missing some segments I had put on the timeline. I am sure I saved before shutting down, it does after all ask if you wish to save the current project when you turn off the program. yet there it was ,,, gone!

I have also had to re-ingest video that others have inadvertanatly deleted, in some cases its just not possible if the tape has also gone missing. That happens because we do re-use tapes. Important tapes are not supposed to get put in the recycle stack but occassionally they do.

I was on a crew in the process of dismantling and moving a cable TV office. We already had CNN off and other American stations. We stopped work leaving about 2/3s of the channels operating including CBC newsworld which was showing the CNN feed anyway.
About half an hour after the second hit one of the guys shooted "there's a third one". He was seeing a replay of the second impact from a different angle. Seems he missed the part about them being Twin towers and assumed they were triplets.

I seem to recall it being an even more ignorant reason. Apparently since the rest of the architects and structural engineers of the world haven't given their expert analysis of the collapses then they must be afraid to speak for fear of retribution, much like truthers think of the FDNY.
