Richard Dawkins on why science is better than myth

Excellent clip, thanks for the link. I loved the bit where Dawkins points out that 40% of Americans believe the bible literally, including the story of Lott's wife being turned to salt and Paxman thinks for a second before asking, "Do you really care that there are a lot of stupid people in the world?". Excellent, good old Paxo.

In fairness from what I got out of the interview Dawkins isn't advocating replacing myths with science. He says that he enjoys many myths and they are good in that they encourage the imagination; his point seems to be that science is equally as wonderful as myth but also it is true and it is this which should be taught.

Myths are wonderful just so long as they aren't taught as truth. IMHO a world without myths would be awful!

A myth is just a fictional representation of history. I love fiction and just as long as it is firmly considered as fiction, myths are great when it's a good story and well written. The physical dangers of myths being accepted as anything but fiction are all around us.

Apparently mr Dawkins may have had a change of heart....
Dawkins said: "I have been a robust critic of intelligent design on the basis it sounds like the kind of explanation a five year-old might give as to why the living room is covered in crayon.

"But to say an arse like that could have happened by genetic accident is just mental."
ROFL!!!
