Rhode Island to change it's formal name

If they were born in the last 50-60 years or so, they should be encouraged to change their name because their parents were dumb jerks.

Names go in and out of favor all the time. "Gaylord" has been out of favor for a very long time.

Dick Gaylord may have grown attached to his name despite the offence and ridicule it invites.

It was a Jeopardy final answer many years ago--what state had the longest name. They'll have to be sure to pull that episode from any streaming service.

It is a question in the original edition of Trivial Pursuit. So, I would have gotten that final Jeopardy. I would have also had no problem with "Otto Titzling."

Trivial Pursuit is now owned by Hasbro which is based in Rhode Island.

It's not a twerking of Isle of Rhodes? Just kind of assumed so

The explanation that made most sense to me among those I saw was that the Dutch named one of the islands in the bay "Red Island", which in Dutch is "rode eiland"

So, named for the same reason as Rhodes, but not named after it.

On behalf of all New Hampshiremen, I shall have to call you out on the Field of Honor! Super Soakers loaded with New Hampshire Maple Syrup at ten paces!

Do you have permission from the Canadians to use Maple syrup....

If I were Dick Gaylord I'd have gotten tired of the jokes and changed it to Gay Dicklord. It's not only impossible to make fun of, but it's also more appropriate.
