• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Responsible gun owner shoots book. And boyfriend.

Social media, Youtube, etc could have been a great thing. Instead it has made just about everyone think they are something special. Too many people have this constant need for attention.

You have "pranks" that are really assault or some other crime. You have people risking their lives climbing towers, etc that they have no business doing just to get attention. Then you have these idiots who need attention so bad that they are willing to die for it. Doing these things does not make you brave. It makes you stupid.

I don't feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for the family he left behind. They are the ones who will have to pay for this the rest of their lives.

I am pretty sure that even with my limited skills and experience, I could create a convincing fake video of that stunt without placing anyone in danger. I wouldn't, though, because such a video might encourage someone to try it for real and ... that would be bad.

A piece of 3/8" plate steel between the pages of the book would just about do it....but I'd still test it first!

Its Not a tragedy, it's an obvious consequence to a stupid action.

Why is it a stupid action? There are plenty of things people do where they feel the risk is worth the reward. Free climbing comes to mind. The tweet even called it dangerous. Who are we to say what risk is unacceptable?

We're talking about people who, out of all guns, picked a *********** Desert Eagle. They just aren't bright enough to come up with that sort of thing.

I would say the results are evidence of the stupidity. Just because some thinks the risk is acceptable doesn't mean that the act isn't stupid.

Experience can lessen risk. Free climbing to an experienced climber is an acceptable risk. Free climbing to someone who's never done it before is not.

Simply dieing from something with an acceptable risk of death is not evidence it is unacceptable.

BBC News: US woman shoots boyfriend in YouTube stunt

"A Minnesota woman has been charged over the fatal shooting of her boyfriend, in what authorities say was a social media stunt gone wrong.

Monalisa Perez, 19, was booked into county jail after shooting at Pedro Ruiz as he held a book to his chest, believing it would stop the bullet.

Well, strike one for natural selec--

The couple's three-year-old child and nearly 30 onlookers watched as she fired the fatal bullet into his chest.

Dammit!

He called it dangerous. That certainly is true.

That's a trivial assessment of the risk yet he went through with it. What kind of risk assment do you think a stunt person or movie house might make? What would it look like and why?

Which is why an amateur needs to take bigger risks to catch more attention.

First rule of gun safety don't point it at anything you do not intend to destroy.

If one does not understand this, one is a danger to themselves and others.
