Republicans think you don't pay enough tax.

Obama wants to defer taxation on the lower middle class, and transfer it where it belongs, to those who can actually afford it. If you see some other way to encourage job growth and spending on the part of those who buy the goods that jobs produce, say so.

Then he'd be open to tax reform whereby rates are lowered but deductions and exemptions are reduced so that more tax revenue is collected?

I guess they don't want an economic recovery if it benefits a Democratic President.
This continues a Republican trend of trying to hold Obama hostage to push their their political agenda. We saw it with the debt ceiling and the Republicans refusal to agree to sign until Obama caved on future spending, a pre-requisite previously unheard of. Then they blocked approval of the consumer bureau chief unless Obama agreed to structural changes in the organization. Now you post another example. These are nothing less then pure attempts at blackmailing Obama. It's pathetic.

TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!!!

MORE DE-REGULATION!!!

OUTLAW GAY MARRIAGE!!!

INVADE IRAN!!!

What? :)

GOP economic policy consists of two components.

1) Tax cuts for the rich.
2) Cuts to government programs and entitlements to free up financial resources for further tax cuts for the rich.

Everything else is either pay for play policies for wealthy contributors or unresolvable social wedge issues to keep people voting for them. There’s really nothing else.

And yet it appeals to a sizable percentage of our population, most of whom are not rich.

From the actual proposal:

Ok, Brainster, do you retract now? The money would be replenished from the general fund. The Democrats propose paying for this through a millionaire surcharge. But as a factual matter, you are wrong. Care to respond?
