Rep. Christopher Lee resigns

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/reliable-source/2011/02/the_woman_who_met_a_married_co.html

The woman who leaked this speaks...and sounds like a moron.

"A faculty specialist for the University of Maryland and single mother of a preteen son, Callahan hashed over the e-mails with her social circle of young professionals. Lee's deception was out of bounds, her friends agreed, and Callahan began to see this as a cautionary tale."

"I assumed that other people have probably come across him as well, and he had lied to them," she said. "I felt annoyance at just the audacity of people thinking that they're not going to get found out when they are lying."

Yes how dare someone lie on the internet. A stupid "scandal" with two stupid people involved. I don't see any more skeletons in this closet. Just a stupid rep. and a woman crusading for all the people who are deceived by people lying about their identity on the intertubes. She didn't want media attention. Ok so the obvious thing to do was leak this to the world and expect no one to try and figure out who you are.

If there aren't any more skeletons in the closet, why did he resign so quickly?

Other congressman have survived worse.

The guys an idiot, but i'm of the opinion that your private life is your private life until you do something illegal. He shouldn't have resigned for this. But he should have had a massive crisis of conscience for even being in the republican party and resigned over that.

I wonder how many politicians resign due to "scandals" that the voters actually don't care about, but the media frenzy gives the impression they do?

I would think he resigned because it is just the tip of the iceberg.

The resignation may be because of family troubles coming because of what he has done or illegal items like Spitzer.

I think it's important to point out that he could very well be resigning in order to deal with his family problems. He knows it would be unfair to both his family and the people to divide his attention between two very involved subjects. That's the generous version of speculation of course. The less generous version being that he has some illegal actions that he hopes will not be investigated if he's no longer in government.

And of course he represents a very Republican district. This is confusing to much of the country not from New York, but there is more than NYC views in the state. Not that other states don't have this divide. PA has Philly and Pittsburgh , but it's Virgina in between for example.

Maybe he wants to get out of town without a fight before some tabloid journalist smells the blood in the water and finds out that he got violent with one of the women he contacted. Or maybe one of them knows something about some illegal activity he is involved in. This foll cannot possibly be totally clean in all other aspects of his life.

Or maybe he's embarassed for the exact issue that has already come to light. Could he fight the media impact and keep his seat? Precedent suggests it is a good possibility but not guaranteed. However his priorities might not place keeping his post as trumping other priorities. So far nothing suggests to me anything truly worse would come to light. Its not implausible, I just do not see evidence of more fire from the smoke we can see.

I am from a neighboring district of Lee. We here in upstate NY have more than our share of dimwits. I didn't have any congressional representation from when Eric Massa was forced out for his own sexual peccadilloes and the last election.
Just last month, a state assemblyman tried to sue some homeowners. He tresspassed on their property, climbed a ladder in the unfinished house, fell and broke his leg. The owners were nice enough not to press charges.

On the last day they could press charges, this scumbag filed to sued them for a couple of mill.

He was rightfully vilified by the local press and dropped the suit. Here is the story:
