On a more serious note, NPR did a report on this I heard this morning and said many of the followers quit jobs back in May and gave away money, etc. The preachers response was something like I'm not responsible for their actions.

I'm just peeved I've been spending all this time studying for midterms and stuff when I could have been out partying. Who needs good grades when the world will be over before the semester ends? :rolleyes:
 
Why does he always have to pick Friday? Can't he pick a day after I get drunk? Don't wanna meet the big man full of drink :D.

I don't deny the fact that he made a lot of money but...In the respect that he fraudulently took advantage of many ignorant people by fear mongering them, he is the 'smarter' one?

Isn't this giving him too much credit?

The individual who is both stupid enough to believe Camping's yammerings and also possessed of sufficient wealth for a fleecing, is a relatively rare individual. However, the population is sufficiently bloated to allow Camping to uncover enough of these rare nuggets to profit significantly.

He doesn't have to be 'smart'. He only has to be sufficiently sentient and cunning to take advantage of unusually gullible people. The bloated population, coupled with the Godspot, will do the rest.

Plus, he might not be as stupid as we think. He apparently knows there is no afterlife. He apparently has no fear of eternal damnation, and he's going for all the gusto he can get in this life.

Yes, it is fairly easy to make money by scaring and lying to Christians. Evangelists have been doing it for centuries. Personally, I consider it unethical, but few evangelists are concerned with ethics. Money is much more important.
 
I predict Camping will state that the earth was in fact destroyed, and that counts against our score, but that it was then recreated in exactly the same form so that we'd have more time to play the game. I call this theory 'Camping the Respawn'.
