Remember Tulia?

Not in America! Not in Texas!

Here in America, we like to run over babies with our SUVs!

All those minorities are here to work for us fundamentalist Christian slave owners!

This is obviously a ploy by the Bush administration to boost his ratings on TV.

'Bout freaking time! FOUR YEARS?

Maybe that butthead, pisspoor excuse for a police officer should be made to serve the same amount of time that the defendants served...the TOTAL amount.

Coleman - the POS who caused these arrests - should now be put on criminal trial for fraud, kidnapping, false imprisonment, in Tulia. He should also be prosecuted in civil court for lost wages, pain and suffering, punitive damages. As much as he deserves to be taken out back and shot, he should instead be made to face a fair court for his crimes.

Outstanding.

Thanks for the update, Fade. :)

I had previously expressed my confidence in this thread that justice would be done. Looks like the wheels are turning.

Right on.

And, don't forget the county district attorney who recently had the ability to pursue the matter and dismiss charges against those imprisoned but chose not to.... it was re-election time, and he didn't want to look "soft."

you are getting on the right track, but what concerned me more about this case is the systemic error that was clearly present. I have been on jury duty twice, and the justice system is full of checks and balances.

One hustler by himself did not do this. He add accomplices, whether they realised it or not.

Also clearly at issue here are:-

1. Racism
2. The Justice System.
3. The judge
4. The townspeople, who formed the jury.
5. 'Tough on Crime'
6. The War on Drugs

Note the many guilty pleas, as a guilty plea gets you less years than contesting the charge. It makes you wonder how many people realise that they are going to be found guilty whether they were or not, and plead guilty for purely pragmatic reasons.

Not 100% up to snuff on the legal system, but wouldn't they then plead Nolo Contendre?
