Not quite. Some of the laboratory methods developed in alchemy led to the development of modern chemistry. However the idea of transmuting metals by finding the philosopher's stone has long since been abandoned.
Chemistry is more useful for turning pseudoephedrine into methamphetamine, if Breaking Bad has taught me anything.
