Regional revival tackles community standards witha book burning

That is one reason pastors from several denominations and races ripped pages from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Those and pages from a pornographic magazine were put into a burn pit and set afire as praises bellowed from the congregation.

Interestingly the average length of time it took a pastor to rip up the Harry Potter book was 38 seconds while the pornographic magazine took 5 pastors 4 minutes and 37 seconds.

"It is allowed for Harry Potter to be taught in our schools, but not the Bible,"

And after a good old fashioned bibliocue they still wonder why.

doesn't matter to me, I just rolled a natural 20 against faither stupidity for this week. (woohoo crit me baby one more time)

There's something I'm always wondering:

Why are fundies so disturbed by Harry Potter ? Why not burn Pullman's His Dark Materials instead ? I mean that one's about killing their god, for FSM's sake.

Or are those people so far gone into paranoid delusion that they believe in magical spells and real witches who can turn into cats, fly and eat christian kids at night ? Are we soon to see a return to witch burning in the US ?

Because Harry Potter has a much higher profile- it's advertised much more (and read by many more children) than Pullman's books.

To find out about Pullman's books, they'd actually have to read to find out about them, and people who burn books generally don't (or can't) read them.

Plus, it really doesn't matter how many they burn; after all, they still have to buy them, right? Doesn't really seem to hurt JK or the publisher, any....
