From Bleacher Report:

Two of the NFL's most exciting young quarterbacks will compete in Week 9 as the Carolina Panthers take on the Washington Redskins.

Last season, Cam Newton won the Rookie of the Year Award after taking the league by storm with both his arm and legs. This year, Robert Griffin III is doing the same thing and is the likely favorite for this year's award.

Unfortunately, neither has had too much success in the win column this year. The Panthers have lost five straight and are 1-6 on the season, while the Redskins fell to 3-5 with a loss last week.

Since 3 points are generally awarded to the home team when calculating the betting line, this one is a tie on a neutral field. Look for Cam Netwon to shred a weak Redskin secondary.

Redskin Rule

The Redskins Rule is a trend involving NFL football and United States presidential elections. Briefly stated, there is a high correlation between the outcome of the most recent Washington Redskins home football game and the U.S. Presidential Election: when the Redskins win, the party which won the popular vote in the previous election wins the electoral vote for the White House; when they lose, the non-incumbent party wins.

Yeah... No.... Trust me I'm a Panther fan & they exist solely to piss me off.

Superstition:

Superstition is a belief in supernatural causality: that one event leads to the cause of another without any physical process linking the two events.

ETA: I think there is a relationship to the inverse gambler's fallacy also.

Other bizarre factors that supposedly affect the outcome of the election.

I particularly like the Halloween costume link; although I suppose it isn't all that surprising the people would want to dress up like a charismatic, well-dressed man who made history in 2008 over Romney, but regardless the notion is still quite amusing.

Although a more accurate title for that article would be "6 bizzare factors that 'post'dict every presidential election". Even the author admits that in the last sentence:

We'll just come back and fill this one in after we see how the election turns out.

Amusing, and given the general tenor of the campaign, combined with the quality of the teams involved, quite apt. The Panthers are the stoppable force, the Redskins the movable object.
On the plus side, I have Cam on one of my fantasy teams, and the Redskins are one team he should score on easily.

I was leaning towards putting money on the 'Skins. Glad I slept in today.
