Recommend me books on genetics

You know, believe it or not I got a lot out of a textbook, The Molecular Biology of the Gene by James Watson. I found it pretty well written, much less dry than a lot of textbooks. And it's the straight stuff from the man who discovered it, usually not a bad recommendation. OTOH, I have to admit it's not about genetics, but about precisely what the title says: molecular biology. For pure genetics, I'd say The Selfish Gene is about as good as it gets.

Anything by Matt Ridley. I thing his most broad study of (human) genetics is:
Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters (ISBN 0-00-763573-7)
His books are entertaining and well written. Sometimes I found his libertarian bent grating.

I agree, but I've found that of Richard Dawkins a little more grating on occasions. He is just a little too "right-on" for my taste sometimes. Still, doesn't stop me reading his books. I thought "Genome" was good, too.

I can endorse that - entertaining, informative and fairly easily understandable. The book takes one gene at a time from each of the 23 chromosome pairs to discuss, so its not an all-embracing primer on genetics, though.
