Right, but the Goldwater run coincided with the idea of fusionism on the right, and while it was very much something Goldwater was uncomfortable with, I think his defeat signalled to the fusionists that their way was the way to go, culminating in Reagan.
I think Capel was saying that the genesis of this coincided with Goldwater, rather than it being a Goldwater concocted idea.
