Ever wonder what would happen if the earth's magnetic poles flipped?

Go to Rapture Ready and Find out!

Does anyone have an account there? You know, to correct them just a little...?

Lets see...

I love the posts that assume magnetism and gravity are the same thing. Also, apparently the Earth's magnetic field deflects comets:D

The magnetic field flips- North is South and vica versa. All electro-magnets will be useless. No electricity, batteries won't work... you get the picture.

"Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!" - Venkman

Admittedly, compasses will start pointing the wrong direction and that could mess up a few lost hikers who don't have GPS...

It will take us back over a hundred years.

So that will put the RR people back where? To the 700s?

:dl:

At least there are a couple of people there pointing out some of the BS these people are sharing. Thank dog for small things.

I once registered on RR and asked them whether they accepted atheists. They said that a few posters were, but they would be uncomfortable with me proselytizing my unbelief. (I've always wondered how you proselytize for nothing...)

RR posters are genuine but extremely naive and trusting of anyone who quotes from the Bibble. There's no scientific understanding at all.

And how are the "special" people not going to fly away? Sticky boots?

That would be the weight of all that sin holding them down of course.

Oh, but they are cleansed of Sin every Sunday when they confess and pray together. They'll have to stick gum to the bottom of their footwear when they see signs of the Rapture.

MMmmm, see, I'm confusing different religions here. Some have all the sinners going to hell while the people god loves get to take over a paradise planet (earth transformed into heaven).

OThers say the people god loves get to go to heaven and all the sinners suffer on an earth gone to hell.

Somebody please post what Rapture Ready folk see it as. I'm just so not educated in this area.

Jeez. Hope there is enough space suits. I'd rather stay on earth than slowly hemorrhage/suffocate/freeze to death.

Eos, the fundie version of what they mean by "rapture" is when Jebus comes back and takes his children with him, leaving the miserable rest of us here on Earth.

There ought to be a way we could take advanage of this, and create a spaceship to send them away. Sort of like the "B Ark" in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Ha ha, I have news for them. The rapture already happened. All those missing people...aren't missing! They were the "lucky ones"! And we are the ones left behind, every 6+ billion of us! No afterlife, no magic, no paradise, just us and what we have of of this planet right now. Heh heh hehhhh!

This is a pretty standard woo claim I've seen floating around for a while. Somewhat simular to the whole photon belt thing.

Photon belt thing? Don't leave me hanging...please elaborate...my imagination is running wild...and I'd rather hear your version than from the source. I usually can't stand reading things like that from the source.

So this collision thing somehow leads to the thinking that it will be a big involvement in the Rapture if it were ever possible?

These people are looking for doom and gloom as a pinpoint to predict the Rapture?

Am I on the right track?

No the Photon belt is more tied to the whole new age/ufo thing I haven't seen it become part of the rapture thing. It is most simular to planet X except it doesn't have any clear leaders

The Rapture nuts don't appeared to have picked up on it. There are a lot of groups predicting the end of the world in lots of different ways.

I personaly liked the "Electromagnets wouldnt work, there would be no electricity!"

Sure the idea of the "north" and 'south' poles of a magnet would have to be revised, but thier function would be the same, regardless of the earth's magnetic field.

The only power generation system which could be drasticly affected would be geothermal, and the increase of ionized particles hitting the atmosphere could screw up our power transmission systems like the sunspots did in canada.

If the Earth's poles reversed, at least we'd have a consistent system. As it is now, the Earth's North geographic pole is actually a south magnetic pole (that's why the magnetic north end of a compass needle points towards it).

I for one would welcome our new magnetic arrangement.
