Randi's Zener card prediction.

Good morning everyone.
Maybe someone could post a sticky with what the rules / guidelines are - if I SPECULATE about how a trick MAY be done (which is all I would be doing) I'm not breaking the code - unless someone verifies that I hit the nail on the head.

I am not looking for anyone to post how they think it was done. As I have stated, I'm glad I don't know for sure how it's done. I can think of some ways as well to do it, but I doubt Randi's doing it those ways. I bet my way might be a bit more complicated or hi-tech then his.
I was simply wondering if everyone else figured this out right away. For me it took a long time to think of how to pull this off.

I wonder if when the person takes the two cards and flips them so they are face to face, if anyone else, like a person to each side of the person, can see the cards?

Well, I saw this performance and the girl next to me was chosen. I could see the cards she chose but I didn't signal Randi...I promise :)

I saw Randi do this trick live in Stockholm at a lecture. I know of at least one way of doing it without any stooge, no duplicate cards, and no trick envelope. Took me about half an hour to come up with the method after seeing the show.

I do not know if it is the way Randi does it but I can ask him at the next TAM if I can afford to go there, or I could send him an email.

One of the things I really like is the joke there he makes the audience believe that he has switched the envelope, at least he did that in Stockholm, then he had the spectator show the three remaining cards.

But it does show that others can see the cards. ;)
What difference does that make? Even if Randi received information from a stooge, he would still have to manage to get the right cards into the envelope.

Good morning Ririon.

This is interesting because in all of the shows I have seen the cards were Jumbo Bicycle back Zener cards. Blue backs.
In the one tape he asked the person in the audience to guess what cards they thought were in the envelope. The person guessed correctly as well.

That's because Randi thinks I'm special. OR I have just forgotten the bicycles. :)

Jeff - would Randi confirm / deny my theory if I asked him politely in an Email? Or should I wait until I get him all liquored up at the pre-cruise party? ;)

I haven't seen the illusion, but I think I can state this possibility since everyone knows they exist:

marked cards?

I could be totaly wrong but having watched several differant performances of this trick, I would rule out marked cards.

I just watched the video, and I agree. He even points out the potential of marked cards, and accounts for it. He also accounts for swapping the envelopes.

I'm stumped....he's amazing...

One can think of several ways it could be done, but without being able to inspect things like the envelope, the cards, etc., it is somewhat pointless to speculate (especially when we can't speculate in the open).

I just watched the trick on Google Video. It's amazing! I think there is only one way Randi could have "guessed" the cards but I suppose I'm not at liberty to share my suspicions. I would potentially be revealing the secret. :(
