Literally just now heard a blurb on woo2woo aka Coast To Coast with George Noory, that Randi has been offered time on the show but refused it. This all has to do with Sylvia being on the show a little while back and taking a few swings down toward Florida.

Sylvia wants the Million put in escrow. George agrees with her, says that was her right, and seems to be of the opinion that Randi would not be trusted to fork over in the case that Sylvia proves herself.

Apparently, Randi did get some air time on a St Louis station with George's replacement. George has offered Randi time (supposedly the offer was to explain the Challenge), but the offer was refused.

I hold Coast To Coast in very low regard as a reputable news/science source (although it's humor/nausea/frustration quotient is exceedingly high). However, if it were me, I'd think thrice before rejecting the Noory offer out of hand. A chance on a national show to discuss the Challenge and get the rules out in detail doesn't come that often.

It's my hope that The Amazing One hisself might read this, and give his version of why he declined the Coast To Coast offer. Who knows...we might even prevail upon him to reconsider.

Wow, I hope that isn't true! That is exactly the kind of exposure JREF can and should be getting.

But, if true, I'm sure Randi's reasons are good ones. I have every confidence in that.

As to the escrow thing, surely it would suffice to see the legal proof of the existance of the money? And hasn't Randi said at some time that he was willing to put the money in escrow?

And if Sylvia's powers were real, why not just forget about the money, take the challenge, pass it, and publicly humiliate Randi and discredit the JREF? Oh, that's right. Because she knows she is a fake and is using this lame escrow excuse to sidestep the very test she knows she cannot pass. The fake.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to brush up on my financial knowledge...

From dictionary.com
escrow -- Money, property, a deed, or a bond put into the custody of a third party for delivery to a grantee only after the fulfillment of the conditions specified.

Okay...isn't that what's already happening with the financial institution that has the investment account where the Million resides? After the conditions of the Challenge are met, the bucks have to be turned over to the other person.

What am I missing here?

She probably wants to set the terms by which a "win" is decided. I am sure she just happens to know a third party to be entrusted with deciding just such a thing.

Charlie, I was just talking with someone who said that Noory said that Randi asked him to apologize for those swings that Sylvia took. Did you hear that?

Did you read this week's commentary? Randi comments at length on this.

Noory is obviously a publicity-whore (hey, we can say that in Australia), and probably nothing would please him more than for Randi to get into a stand-up knock-down with Sylvia on his show. He would probably even try to goad them on, on air.

I agree with Randi - that is playing the other guy's game his way - no fair. Do they allow you to change the rules of poker after the hands have been dealt?

According to what you wrote, Randi asked Noory to apologize for some of Sylvia's comments -- did I get that right?

Can't say I recall that right off the top of my head, although I was minorly distracted during that segment. I will say that some of Sylvia's comments were really low -- like, she's been working with some law enforcement agencies, and they've got some dirt on Randi...unspecified as to what, of course. I was listening awhile back when that was on, and I took advantage of the show's 'Fast Blast' to comment to Noory. At a good guess, this was the bullsqueezin's from New Jersey all over again, which has been hashed to death ad nauseam. I informed Noory that if this was the case, Sylvia could inform the INS about it, and The Amazing One could have his naturalized citizenship revoked and he could be deported. (This is all stuff that Randi himself has said concerning this -- if I recall right, it was on one of the Thursday internet shows). Anyway, my comments never made the air, so make of that what you will.

Returning to the origin of this thread, I am somewhat concerned in that the way this is being bandied about in the woowoo press, it makes it look as if the JREF is running scared. Naturally, the entire story isn't being told, and what is going out is not terribly accurate. I'd really like something to set the record straight on this. To what I know, the JREF's side isn't being told, Sylvia's getting all the press ("all" being a relative term, but Woo2Woo is a nationally syndicated show), and it's a rather broad brush that's slathering the mud.

I have to remember two things on this:

1) Always tell the truth about this situation.
2) I'm not in charge of anything here.

Beyond that, let the chips fall where they may.

I've just gone and read this week's Commentary, where Ms Browne is rendered (and I mean that in the stockyard sense) quite nicely. I do believe Mr Randi has addressed the issue to the point, and very succinctly.

Now, if there were only a venue of comparable media access to Woo2Woo that we could put this out on...

Anyway, this answers my questions completely, and addresses the vast majority of my concerns.

THWACK! Ball's in your court, Sylvia...

The thing I heard about demanding an apology must have been from the Paul commentator mentioned in Randi's commentary.
