I'm not so sure.

I am very very proud to live in a country where is it totally illegal and immoral, to discriminate against customers and employees based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, etc.

Would Paul really wanna turn back this clock? I really hope not.

His political future will be very short..if he does.

The republican party is stuck with this guy. I hope the tea party gets more like him into the thick of it. What a winning hand for democrats.

Though I must admit Rand learned how to be a true republican quickly after Rachel Maddow ripped him up on her show. He now says he'll avoid her in the future. Spoken like a truly red victimized republican.

Kind of like McConnell got ripped up on Meet The Press this past weekend. Its becoming fun to watch.

Most democrats aren't a whole lot better, but when compared to this bunch of republicans, they look like saviors.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you don't live in a country where it is totally illegal to discriminate against employees based on race, ethnicity (what's the difference between enthnicity and race?), religion, or gender.

Anti discrimination laws don't apply to companies below a certain number of employees. That's how someone can start a "black" company that hires only blacks, for instance.
 
Why are people surprised by this? It's totally in line with the standard libertarian/ronulan philosophy.
 
FWIW, when I watched the Maddow interview, what struck me was Paul's evasiveness. This is the sign of a person who (at least) does not have the courage of his convictions and is afraid of telling the truth.

If he wants to take the position that private businesses can serve whoever they want ("NO SOUP FOR YOU!!") and ought to be allowed to base that decision upon race (or ethnicity or religion or sexual orientation), then let him take that position and defend it like a man. All the mealy mouthed hedging and lame efforts to change the subject made him sound like a yellow-belly.
 
Can someone link to The Onion video where the guy who threatens to kill Obama goes to great lengths to demonstrate that he is not a racist, "I have black friends". Rand's statement reads like a parody of that video.

Sure. Someone who believes that government should be extremely limited, should have very little control over people, and should limit itself almost exclusively to protection of private property rights simply must be racist if he carries that belief to its logical conclusion.

ETA: The "racist" label is getting thrown arround so much now that it is completely losing its power. I remember a story that I learned in childhood that seems appropriate...something about a wolf and a boy.

Painter, he didn't actually give a yes or no answer. His evasion says quite a bit, though. Also, during the interview, he didn't say such a thing, but the clips Maddow shows before interviewing him says it all.

Maybe not in so many words, but I challenge anybody to read his opinions and come away thinking that is not what he believes.
Nice attempt at evasion, though. ALmost as good as Rand Paul's.

I think it is fair to extrapolate from Rand Paul's comments that he does thinks it should not be lllegal for a business to discriminate against people on the basis of race.
Whether or not that makes him a racist is another issue.

And get the feeling this will not be the last time Paul jr gets in trouble.
I predict this guy will be a headache for the GOP,and if he wins he will be a major loose cannon problem for them in the Senate. The GOP could tolerate that with Daddy in the house, but in the Senate a loose cannon can do a lot more damage to the party.

I think he's rather disgusting. To assert that "if we stop private businesses from racism, then we should also tell them that we can bring guns into that business as well" is rather stupid. WTF?! It's like he's trying to turn this issue on it's head, but fails. Is it me, or is he a moron?
