Merged Rally to Restore Sanity

John Ashcroft died over 5 years ago. Clearly that last sign had nothing to do with the Stewart/Colbert rally.

I also find it astounding that you didn't get the point of the sign saying Nazi's are like Nazi's.

The last two signs.

Cicero keeps up to date by using year old rants about seven year old protests through carefully researching Liberty Chick.

Really? What do you suppose this comment above that sign means?

But here is a Stewart/Colbert Rally sign that is not ambiguous about taking to task both conservatives and libs for Hitler comparisons.

I said the other signs were from different venues. You are 0-2 in comprehension.

What I found interesting, Cicero, is that by defending your point, you're proving mine.

Here is another oldie but goodie:

"The only difference between Bush and Hitler is that Hitler was elected."

Kurt Vonnegut, March, 2006, speech at Ohio University

You seem to be more concerned with who posted the signs on the internet rather than the ideology of the people carrying them.

I'm pretty sure Vonnegut wasn't at the Stewart rally.

And, if I may add, the whole calling someone a "Nazi" or "Hitler" thing is not restricted to liberals calling conservatives that. It happens just as much between conservatives to liberals even liberals to liberals and conservatives to conservatives.

ETA: In fact, I wrote a rant about this whole "Nazi"/"Hitler" thing on my facebook page. I think you can read it (if you wish) without "friending" me. But if you want to friend me, I won't say no. :-)

Not to mention that the country isn't populated with only "liberals" and "conservatives".

So what? Do you think the majority of attendees at the Stewart/Colbert Rally were condemning liberals like Vonnegut, who promoted fear using the Bush = Hitler comparison, along with Republicans who have done so?

No, I think the majority of attendees were people who are sick of the fear that is being broadcasted by Fox, MSNBC and CNN. That was Jon point of the rally.

Further, offering as proof, here are the signs that were sent into the rally for sanity website and voted by the people as the most sane signs.

How would I know? I don't read minds like you seem to do. Given Stewart's speech, I would say that's not the point of the rally. Of course, you are free to make your wild-assed speculations and try to puzzle out everyone's motives by looking at only a couple of signs, but I don't think you'll come up with anything but what you want to find that way.

Not that I think that bothers you at all- you seem to prefer it that way.

Besides, what is a "condemning liberal" anyway? The way you use the phrase it seems to mean anyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do.

Why would I be concerned about the ideology of a couple of people in L.A. seven years ago? I'm just amused at the transparent dishonesty of someone who dredges up photos of signs from a 2003 anti-war protest in Hollywood in an effort to find something to whine about in a thread discussing a 2010 rally in DC hosted by couple of Comedy Central celebs.

Again, Stewart's point of the rally is not compatible with the number of signs that singled out FOX News as the source of fear. To suggest that this rally consisted of a majority of folks who expressed equal rejection of "liberal fear mongers" along with "conservative fear monger" is absurd.

Here is one sign that included Keith Olbermann as one of three full of hot air.

The people who targeted FOX News exclusively (Stewart appears on O'Reilly's show) were indifferent to the spirit of Stewart's point.

Where are the signs that mention MSNBC/CNN. Can you post any signs that targeted them?

Well, you were also not interested in the supposed non-political 2010 rally in DC hosted by a couple of Comedy Central celebs, where folks carrying signs of Hitler mustaches on conservatives Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Boehner and Cantor, who is Jewish, so it isn't surprising you are not interested in any other - name the conservative/Republican = Hitler signs from any other time period. You mention that it was an anti-war protest. Why? Does that make the Hitler comparison OK for you?

Part of the discussion is about those who attended and the signs they carried. I'm sorry if this part of the discussion offends your delicate sensibilities.

I can't imagine what gave you the idea I was offended. I think you're a laugh a minute.

Please keep up the good work. It's the text equivalent of slapstick. If it were not quite so over the top I'd be concerned that the more gullible might actually take it seriously, but there is very little chance of that.

I'm delighted to add some amusement to your otherwise melancholy existence.

Don't have to. The people got the point of what Jon was saying, which was basically, "things aren't as bad as you say they are so stop the fear mongering and please stop shouting". All three news channels are guilty of that, but, I'm sorry say, out of the three, Fox is the loudest. So they got the most attention.

However, the point still stands.

So am I right in assuming that Fox "news" is not news, but one big advertisement for Republicans?
