Merged Rally to Restore Sanity

Glenn Beck just surprised me.

I heard him speaking of the rally today. For the most part, he only had good things to say about it, and about Jon Stewart. In fact, he said Stewart's ending speech was very good (and added, its basically the same thing he (Beck) had been saying, except that he (Beck) wraps his message in God).

His main points of contention (that I recall) were that Colbert was an embarrassment, that they only introduced Cat Stevens by his first name (Yosef) but left off the last (Islam), and that overall the comedy portion did not go very well, though he also mentioned that kind of venue is a difficult configuration for comedy anyway.

That's an interesting self-image Mr. Beck has.

I almost went down to see it, but personal stuff got in the way. I caught a lot of it on TV and thought it quite good. Like Beck, I thought Stewart's closing speech was quite good. I hope there are some that adopt his philosophy...including Mr. Beck.

You listen to Glenn Beck??

Seriously, did he mention anything about the size of the crowd (especially relative to his own rally)?

I only heard about 20 mins, and didn't hear anything about crowd size. Though there is discussion of that on his web site, theblaze.com.

And those shots were shot from the same perspective at the same point in the day? It looks to me like the Washington Monument is much bigger n the Beck rally picture meaning they were much closer in. Also, it looks like they were shot in different directions, since the reflecting pool is seen in one but not in the other. finally, it looks as if the light is just rising behind the Washington Monument in the Stewart rally picture. Since the monument is to the east of the reflecting pool, that would mean the shot was taken at daybreak, hours before the rally started.

Nice try though.

All those are good points, but the Stewart rally is the top picture and seems to show hella more people. Is that what Cicero was going for?

That doesn't seem like him.

The picture is indeed more full of people. But since the photos aren't taken of the same area (because the rallies weren't held at the same location on the mall), or the entire crows at either rally, that tells us pretty much nothing about relative crowd sizes.

Lots of people were at both rallies. I'm not sure why getting into a pissing match about which was bigger actually matters to anyone. But if you want some better photos to use for comparison, here's two:

Lots of people at both, but you won't be able to compare them without measuring out the areas involved and making some assumptions about crowd densities. But like I said, I'm not really seeing the point of doing so.

Pretty funny that it's so predictable what people will whine about.

How dare that Muslim get on stage with a Jew and a Christian and sing about peace.

Let's not forget: the rally was to restore sanity and/or fear. The fact that certain people have fixated on Yusuf Islam's politics/religion/whatever simply proves that Stephen Colbert won this round.

Good on you, Mr. Colbert, well played. And Mr. Stewart -- with all your sanity and whatnot -- better luck next time, my friend. Better luck next time.

I didn't see much bare ground there.

And the Stewart crowd's signs made more sense.

There wasn't much bare ground at all and the streets were crowded for blocks around, as far as I could see.

And a lot of the sign were funny.

More nonsense.

A supposed non-political rally with a poster of Hitler mustaches on conservatives, Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Boehner and Cantor, who is Jewish, makes tremendous sense. And what "Rally For Sanity" would be complete without these sign-carrying moonbats.

Oh, I agree, I was just puzzled about what Cicero was trying to say.

Already said by NoScotsman:

These rallies are like moth paper for idiots.

Stewart/Colbert managed to attract more numbers than Beck.

I hope you realize those last two are satirical.

That's really not too bad. I'm going to daydream for a moment that Beck had an epiphany and has now decided to pander to the moderates.

They should let Stewart handle the satire. He brandishes a satirical sword that has a point and an edge. By comparison, these moonbats are just unarmed.

Here is another sample of a "Rally For Sanity" attendee's notion of "satire."
