Merged Rally to Restore Sanity

What I am wondering is how that is relevant to the rally, or is it just something you wanted to bring up?

Yeah, this made me really wonder how they can be restoring sanity with him on the stage...
The great success of this event will certainly give the democrats a boost, but will it make a difference in stopping the republican revolution?

The entire point of this rally was to highlight that just because we mqy disagree on some points, that doesn't mean we have to disagree on everything or be inhospitable to one another. The real world doesn't have to be this black-and-white dichotomy we've been trying to make it into.
So, Jon Stewart and Cat Stevens probably disagree on an issue. So what? Does that mean they must be mortal enemies and never work towards some of the same goals? Of course not.

Well, wanting to have someone killed for a book is not a minor issue and supporting people with those ideas is not really restoring sanity.

Not much to report here, I went to my first (and probably last) rally, laughed, cried (although I was just following the prompters when I was crying), and helped cause a seismic event.
It will probably be my last because that is definitely not my thing. I felt that this was important enough to attend, but in contrast I'll be doing what I really like to do next weekend--sitting alone in the woods for a couple hours waiting for unlucky squirrels.
I've been reading the new organizations this morning to see the coverage, NPR was probably the best and they were pretty bad. FOX news could seriously pass for The Onion.
The mix of people at the rally was impressive. The Roots played too long. The things the Mythbusters had us do were freakin' awesome and made being there vs. seeing it on the internet worth it. The tree climbers were hilarious. Kid rock sucks. Sheryl Crow marginally doesn't. The last speech by Stewart was great.

Don't you mean the Tea Republican Party Revolution? Be interesting to see if the insane Teabaggers are allowed to continue their ridiculousness, or will the establishment republicans make them fall in line. Lose lose for America.

He's not the only one. After I got tired of the crowd on the Mall, I was headed up 7th St near the National Archives but could still hear much of the music. "Who the hell is that mangling Crazy Train?!" I thought. Turns out it was Ozzy himself.

From what I caught on the live stream, it seemed to me that Colbert and Stewart were out of their element. I think my favorite part was the last 10 minute speech by Stewart, and I wish the entire rally had been presented in that kind of more serious tone. Sure, with the occasional wonderful Daily Show wit, but with less of the silly distractions.

That suggests that wanting Salman Rushdie killed for committing blasphemy is simply another opinion, and not something which should be held as antithetical to and incompatible with western democratic values.

Funny you should mention "mortal enemies". Yusuf Islam has chosen to make Rushdie a mortal enemy. That is not simply a disagreement. The only way to avoid becoming mortal enemies with Yusuf is to avoid blasphemy (which is, BTW, an asymmetric arrangement - Rushdie doesn't want him dead). Do you really feel that that's a tolerable restriction? Even if you don't want to commit blasphemy, I consider that incompatible with basic American values, and I'm disappointed to find out that you feel otherwise.
