"According to true Jewish values, your lives come before those of the enemy, whether he is a soldier or a civilian under protection. Therefore, you are forbidden from endangering your own life for the sake of the enemy, not even for a civilian," Shapira declared.

"Anything you do to keep the war tough is permissible, and obligatory according to the torah," Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, headmaster of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva, wrote in fliers distributed to his students.

what an %%%hole. total...total evil man.

Is this another "Hey, I dredged up a crazy fringe rabbi saying outrageous things and am pretending it says something relevant to the Israel/Palestine conflict" thread?

And how sad is it that enough of those threads have been created to make it a thing.

"Shapira was arrested over the summer for encouraging Jews to kill Gentiles in his book "The King's Torah." The preface of the book, which was published in November, states that it is forbidden to kill non-Jews - but the book then apparently describes the context in which it is permitted to do so."

Do they normally arrest people for spreading mainstream accepted views?

he is a nutjob....is this an attempt to balance out the "look what a wacky arab said" threads?

I wish I could do a poll part-way in a thread. If I could, this is what my poll would be:

The lesson I get from this thread is;

A) Parky has been cruisin' the hate sites again for troll-bait to use on JREF.

B) We should be outraged at Israel for restricting this man's right to free speech. No where else (in the free world) would he be arrested for expressing his views, no matter how controversal.

C) It must have been a long time since Haaretz did a really good "reason to hate Israel and Jews" story that they felt the need to dredge up this old news again.

D) Wow, this guy must really be fringe if he gets arrested for saying this stuff.

E) Oooh! Another reason to hate Israel!

F) Oooh! Another reason to hate the Jooz!

G) Oooh! E and F!

H) Oooh! Another reason to hate Jews Zionists!

I) On Planet X we shoot the clergy no matter what they say.

the reaction of the Israel can do no wrong crowd is amazing.

Umm, I may be a bit dense today, so help me out.

Can you tell me who are the Israel-can-do-not-wrong-crowd here? And how you deduce, based on this thread, that their response is amazing?

Have you not read this thread? Thunder's opening post was old news and the rabbi has been dealt with. Since then all that has happened is that the vacuousness of this thread has been exposed and mocked (including by those who can be hardly described as pro-Israel).

Haaretz..is a "hate site"????

translation:

"websites and newspapers that do not completely agree with the right-wing Zionist agenda, are anti-Semitic hate sites."

Didn't say that, chuckles, but nice try anyway.

And the well known "denier" the Fool, has called the OP for the rubbish that it is. I really wonder whether people actually read some of the stuff Thunder links to, look at the date of it and stop to consider who are making the statements.

Nah, it's a lot easier to say "you.....you......deniers".
