Really? I would have thought that the oft-cited intellectual hub of the alt-right was incapable of basic fact checking would be important, but hey...

Speaking of basic fact-checking, where did you get the idea that Quillette is alt-right? It's not, not by any stretch of the imagination. It's generally right of center, but more libertarian than anything else. The writers are mostly academics, which is why the focus seems to be on collegiate issues like free speech on campus and the idiocy of post-modernism. Jonathan Kay, the Canadian editor, wrote Among the Truthers, which in addition to debunking the 9-11 nutbars, also took on the Birther stupidity.

Yes, they should have gotten some sort of credentials from the guy, particularly since he decided (apparently in the middle of the process) to go from an anonymous source to a named one. That is a pretty basic mistake. Given that Quillette first made a splash with a modern re-running of the Sokol experiment, it is a tad ironic. OTOH, the Sokol thing was to academic journals, which should have a tad more rigor than an online magazine of mostly opinion pieces.

Given that Quillette first made a splash with a modern re-running of the Sokol experiment, it is a tad ironic.

It's more than just ironic. It's their own flim flam. Setting journalistic standards aside, it's understandable how other publications might be blindsided by something like this. But with Quilette, this can't possibly be a surprise. It's like Bernie Madoff losing his cigarettes in a fellow inmate's tobacco investment scheme.

I think it does a lot to highlight the depth of their ideological bias.

Are you MAD, MAN??!!! Actually, READ??!! Our conserva-guard members would much rather kill the messenger and and split hairs over whether Quillette is an alt-right scumbag site or merely a very right scumbag site. Because there's an important distinction, I'm sure. (As long as you ignore "scumbag site", of course.)
