Question about system reqs for ubuntu distrubitions

I may need to nuke and pave this comp, so - with 1GB Ram and ~2 Ghz processor, am I able to run kubuntu or ubuntu? Or should I stick with xubuntu for now?

Definitely. My Kubuntu runs 250-350 MB RAM at base, depending on if I am using nepomuk (I'd turn it off you won't use it, it gobbles cpu when indexing).

I run Xubuntu on an 800mhz 256mb ram laptop. You'll be fine.
