Psychics and Missing People

Sorry Kelly without a J, the NCMA Senator search engine doesn't work, at least not for me. These do:

By the way, if you need to find contact information for your US Senators, you can go here. And if you want to find the member of the House of Representatives that represents you in Congress, you can go here, but you will need your 9 digit zip code, which you can find on all those bills you get.

Of course a note to your Senators and Rep's home office will also help, but you need only make a few phone calls for that, or look in the blue pages of your telephone book.

And I wrote to both Senators, and my Rep, essentially copying your blog entry, but with a few tweaks, and did the electronic letters, too

If Senators receive lots of letters all the same they will know that there has been a campaign to get people to send letters. These people have not gone to any trouble and will have forgotten about the issue when it really matters (at election time). However if the letters are all different it may appear that people have gone to a lot of trouble by spontaneously writing letters. Maybe they will be prepared to vote differently at the next election?

I suggest people make major changes to Kelly's letter before sending it. What the changes are are not important.

I sent an email to one of the big missing children sites asking where Jennifer Kesse was and they directed me to the site you are referring to. I think if we all email the sites asking why their loved one isn't listed (including FBI), they will realize we are serious and they will see the need for the the sites that are loosing funds.

I disagree with this action. Missing Children's sites/orgs do not get involved in missing adults' cases. I frankly think they aren't going to care enough to truly help. The FBI site only lists missing persons whose cases they are involved with. There are strict guidelines governing which cases they can become involved with.

Other orgs/groups who do assist with missing adults' cases would be more likely to want to help. We really need to try to get at the heart of the matter, which is why the feds are turning their back on this and not keeping their word.

Thank you, Rabbit. What doesn't work on it? I tested several and they all worked. Did it not give you a response at all?

I thank you and applaud you for your efforts. :)

I agree with this to the point of doing it at all or not doing it. If a person is faced with crafting their own letter, and ends up not doing it at all because of time considerations, etc, it is better to send a form letter than no letter at all.

I hope that the majority will alter the letter enough so that it appears different.

Good point, rjh.

An update on our NCMA campaign

We're still not out of the woods for them. In essence, this is a bandaid to cover a large wound. We still need to keep pounding away to get the proper reimbursements and the funding from HR 2103.

I thank those who have helped with this, even though it is not neccesarily your cause. The thing that many don't realize though, is that it could become your cause. No one is immune.

Kelly

It's sad but good, all at the same time. I'm noticing more internet search engine lookups for psychic-related things that point to my blog. I see them in the hits counter.

Someone from Rochester NY, did a MSN search for "ask sylvia browne a questions via internet about my sons murder".

My blog came up on the first page of search results.

I hope they keep reading.

I ran across this scan of an mostly pro-psychic article that was in Good Housekeeping magazine. There are a few paragraphs towards the end that present our side, but then it ends with a haughty statement by Dubois.

Shame on Good Housekeeping! I am surprised they would give the "Seal of Approval" to this.

A lot of nonsense

Oh how depressing! Of course to the believers the word of a 25 year veteran of the FBI will probably not mean much. Maybe you should write a letter to the editor with a link to your blog and since they mentioned Polly Klaas, maybe a link to klaaskids where her family describes how these predators operate. I doubt Polly's family would approve of her name being used to promote the "psychic detectives" that did nothing to help her. Even though it just says that Kathlyn Rhea "did a reading" for the family and not that she actually helped with the case, it will still sound to the believer that she was useful. I saw Polly's dad on P&T's B******T and it was heartbreaking. Is there something legal her family could maybe do to make Good Housekeeping print some kind of retraction?

I don't know about the something legal part. I would think that Marc knows about this, but I cannot be sure without asking him. I think this article was from last fall, but regardless, they do "use" her story to promote these predators. I was surprised to see Polly mentioned in the story, but for whatever reason, it did not occur to me to check with her dad about this. Thanks.

If they could solve missing people they would earn big $ from it. These are the people who do earn money from their non existent powers.

The article is a bit of a joke. Two cases a month for one person. Multiple that by the number of psychics there are and the result is that you should get almost universal acceptance of psychics. But we do not so what they are saying is rubbish.

Could write a lot more but I do not see the point.

Ah, but they are very fond of pointing out that they DO NOT make money and throw the words PRO BONO around a lot. Carla Baron is "balancing the karmic scales" by helping the police for free. Give the lady a medal! I got into an argument with a psychic from the "Psychic Witness" television show on their forum and she mentioned numerous times about how her work is pro bono as that was supposed to change my mind about her not FAKING IT ALL.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how someone outside the US can help, such as whom to contact? Sorry if it's a bit late.

The media want to cater to both believers and skeptics, so they usually sit on the fence.

I remember reading this. I'm sure this psychic claims she solved the murder mystery.

Tonight on that retched show Haunting Evidence on Court TV, Carla Baron exploits the family of missing Tara Grinstead of GA. I don't have CTV, so can't watch it, and even if I did have it, I wouldn't watch it because it makes me sad and angry at the same time.

If anyone watches it, let me know what garbage is told to this family. Thanks.

The ones who don't make money do in other ways, such as public appearances, private readings, books and tapes, etc.

So, don't let them hand you that line of bull. You can bet she gets paid a pretty penny from CTV!

I received an email today from someone I do not know, but who seems to know I have an interest in Carla Baron.

It appears there is strong evidence that Carla has contact with family members of missing people prior to the filming of her show "Haunting Evidence" which follows Carla as she supposedly begins looking into a missing person case.

Some hard evidence here: http://www.carlabaron.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1910#post1910

Regarding the disappearnce of Tara Grinsted:

When I first contacted Carla we were looking at the idea of 48 Hours with CBS. After much discussion we decided that the format with "Haunting Evidence" would work best for us. I have had many conversations with Carla Baron, sometimes several times a day.

I have not ever watched "Haunting Evidence" so I don't know if the show on Tara Grinsted claimed Carla had no prior contact with the family. According to the email I got today, they made such a claim in another show on someone else's disappearance.

Some more interesting bits, from the adminstrator of the Carla Baron fan site forum:

http://www.carlabaron.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1888#post1888

Carla wanted me to post here that her trip to Georgia to work on the investigation for Tara Grinstead's family may be postponed. She is not really happy with how CBS 48 Hours is trying to keep her from communicating properly with the family prior to any filming; i.e., questioning Carla's requirements to work on this as the sole psychic within the case.

Apparently word is getting around, and the same administrator felt compelled to do some spin control: http://www.carlabaron.net/forum/showthread.php?t=525

There have been statements made as to whether or not Carla Baron has had previous contact with several of these cases which have been profiled on the series. Carla has never commented on this issue one way or the other - as it is not definitive of her role as psychic profiler - in fact, it is the responsibility and right of the producers to address. The executive producers @ Court Tv, and production team @ Departure Films have full autonomy when it comes to how they wish to present the material for "Haunting Evidence" - not Carla Baron. Carla has never implied that she did not have previous contact with some of these families, or law enforcement directly assigned, in several of the first season's episodes.

What she does want to point out is - this is the very first time she has met with any of these individuals or traveled to these crime scene locations.

Interesting wordplay.

I got a pretty good idea of what that means...

Sheesh, how inane can this get? No, the psychic can not "communicate properly with the family prior to any filming".
