Protests Erupt in Cuba

When I answered "none" to a question about parties, it was to this question about Cuban elections:
The question you avoided answering was "How many parties are there in the election?" The answer is of course "just one".
The answer, which you would know if you had read up on Cuban elections, is none! There are no parties in Cuban elections because Cuban elections aren't about parties.
This is confirmed by Wikipedia - after the usual nonsense about a "single-party authoritarian regime":
List of political parties in Cuba (Wikipedia)
No party is allowed to campaign or endorse candidates for election, including the Communist Party.
And as mentioned (= quoted) in post 295, I stress again that the constitution you object to "got a 87% approval rating":
Is there any data or info on how many Cubans support the Communist Party? (Reddit)
The new constitution of 2019 got a 87% approval rating. The constitution solidified the role of socialism and the communist party within Cuban society.

As for the violent protests in Cuba in the summer of 2021, you should go back to start. Those protests were what started this thread!
List of people killed during the 2020-23 United States racial unrest (Wikipedia)
How Many Died as a Result of Capitol Riot? (FactCheckOrg, Nov 1, 2021-Feb 5, 2024)
Protest-related deaths in the United States (Wikipedia)
For some reason, one death at violent protests in Cuba is considered to prove that Cuba is a single-party authoritarian regime, whereas any number of people killed by law enforcement and/or armed vigilantes like Kyle Rittenhouse show that the USA is the land of free Smith&Wesson-M&P-15 owners and a vibrant democracy.
As for your quotation from the article:
At least 100 protesters, activists, and independent journalists had been detained nationwide since Sunday, according to exiled rights group Cubalex. Some were detained at the protests but others as they tried to leave their homes, the organisation said.
Did you do any source checking? Did you try to find out about Cubalex? I recommend that you do!
Let me help you out:
US Partially Restores Funding for CubaNet, Cubalex and Some Other Organizations (TranslatingCuba, March 20, 2025)
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated last February that some USAID programs will be exempted from the freeze on funds. “Every dollar we spend, every program we finance must be aligned with the national interest of the United States, and USAID has a history of ignoring that and deciding that, somehow, they are a global charity separate from the national interest,” he said.
Some issues are obviously much more important than feeding and vaccinating children ...

There are other things in the article you quote that should make you consider the veracity, e.g. this contradiction in terms:
Waldo Herrera, a 49-year-old resident of La Guinera, told the Reuters news agency that protesters were “marching peacefully, shouting slogans like ‘Down with communism,’ ‘freedom for the people of Cuba,’ ‘we don’t have medicine, we need food.'”
Herrera said the protesters started throwing stones at security forces, who eventually responded with gunfire.
What kind of gunfire? Was it in the air or aiming at peaceful protesters? (By the way, I wonder how throwing stones could tip over those cars!)
As for the slogan "we don’t have medicine, we need food," it was actually confirmed by the Cuban president that same day! He agreed!
And currently, matters are made even worse by the Trump regime.
But you are already aware of that, I hope.

Other countries are trying to help out, e.g.
Xi Jinping approves new round of aid from the People's Republic of China to Cuba (Granma.cu, Jan 21, 2026)
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Ambassador Hua Xin. The diplomat reported on the delivery to the island of emergency financial assistance in euros valued at $80 million and a donation of 60,000 tons of rice in emergency mode.
It remains to be seen if the U.S. blockade of Cuba will try to stop this kind of humanitarian help the same way it has put a stop to oil from Venezuela and Mexico. But what do you care. You'll probably continue to claim that "the USA doesnt take any measures against any other country trading with Cuba."

From blockade to asphyxiation: the US war on Cuba enters its most brutal phase (PeoplesDispatch, Jan 31, 2026)
On January 29, 2026, the Trump administration transformed a long-standing campaign of pressure into a blunt instrument of suffocation. With an executive order, it weaponized the US tariff system against any nation, including countries like Mexico, that dares to sell oil to Cuba. This is no longer about isolating or containing the Cuban people from the rest of the hemisphere; it is a deliberate strategy of total economic asphyxiation, a move unseen in its aggression since the Cold War.
(...)
The flickering candle in that Havana home, then, is more than a light against the darkness. It is a defiance of an imperial order. The struggle of the Cuban people to keep their lights on is a fundamental struggle for the right of all peoples to determine their destiny, free from the coercion of an empire that confuses dominance with security and mistakes cruelty for strength. As in the past, Cubans will collectively rise to the challenge in order to not only survive, but overcome the blockade.
US actions appear determined to cause a humanitarian crisis in Cuba – Kearney (SinnFein.ie, )
“The economic threats against Mexico and other countries which continue to trade with, and provide oil to, Cuba are outrageous. This type of aggressive gun boat diplomacy is a clear violation of all international norms and a direct attack upon the integrity of the UN Charter.
(...)
“The targeting of Cuba with the latest Presidential Executive Order is both reprehensible and unjustifiable. It represents an amoral attack on the Cuban population, which has suffered for decades as a result of US attempts to destroy its economy and society. The American administration’s actions appear determined to cause a humanitarian crisis in Cuba.
Cuba will not be taking the threat sitting down:
To the empire that threatens us we say: Cuba, we are millions! (Jan 16, 2026)
Their current threats remind us of those from almost every American administration, controlled by the so-called Hawks, proponents of war. Do the current hawks know that the revolutionary defense strategy, known as the War of the Entire People, was born in response to the worst threats from other hawks? Do they know how much their warmongering predecessors invested in the "post-Castro era," after failing in every attempt to destroy an indestructible leadership?
In recent days, the young people have viralized on social networks the anecdote about the little fish (picúa), lived and narrated by Fidel. He recounts that, while swimming underwater, he saw a picúa coming toward him and his first reaction was to retreat; but he quickly reconsidered and lunged toward the aggressive fish, which disappeared from his sight. That is how we must act in the face of the empire, which is a little fish, piranha, shark, and vermin (Applause). But I insist and reiterate one fact: it is Cuban youth who viralized that video on social media.
Cuban President participates at National Defense Day (ACN Cuban News Agency, Feb 2, 2026)
On Saturday morning, various activities were carried out in all defense zones of this populous municipality of the capital as part of the increased preparedness of the population under the concept of the People's War, reported the president of the municipal defense council.
In Tamarindo, a territorial defense exercise was conducted involving members of production and defense brigades and other formations. Medical drills were performed, work was done to prepare the area of military operations and the construction of protective structures for the population, and the groups and subgroups of the defense zone received training.
The 'gun culture' of Cuba in times of peace resembles the one in Denmark much more than the one in the USA (or even Greenland: There aren't many polar bears in Denmark and Cuba!).
