Prince Ranier close to death

The Amazing Meeting paid a visit to his Monte Carlo casino in Las Vegas, and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

This lucky feller married one of the most beautiful babes ever, and his daughter Caroline was--for a while anyway--quite a babe herself (with Stephanie being less so).

(Don't forget that the buzzards are also circling Chief Justice Rehnquist.)

Last I heard, Jerry Falwell wasn't planning to run in any marathons, either.

I was surprised to learn what happens when a pope dies. Read about it here.

Pope was ailing, kidneys were a-failing
All eyes turn to Rome.
Late nights all alone with a prayer book.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Card'nal Somalo, watchin old John Paul-o
Takes his temperature.
"Can I fluff your pillow for you,
Ho-o-o-liness?"

But as he's getting ready to go,
The reaper pays a call.

Bang! Bang! Card'nal's silver hammer
Comes down upon his head!
Bang! Bang! Card'nal's silver hammer
Makes sure that he is dead.

If he could knock off a few more religious leaders, I might vote for his brother when he runs.

Anyone ever mention you have a sick sense of humor, Tricky?

I'm not sure, but isn't Ranier's son still single? If he doesn't marry and produce an heir, Monaco returns to France, if I recall correctly. At that point, things could get interesting, since Monaco has no income tax, and they've been largely a neutral country. (Although, at one point, the Nazis were putting gun emplacements all around the place, waiting for an invasion that didn't happen.)

Sorry to see the guy go, but given the state of affairs, I'm not surprised. He's, what, in his 80's?

Nope, they anticipated this, and tweaked the constitution so that if Albert doesn't produce an heir the succession passes to Ranier's daughters' children.

That's interesting. Up until relatively recently (1920s?) executions were done in Rome by poleaxing the prisoner with a sledgehammer then throttling him. What is this Roman fascination with hammers?
