Prime Ministerial Debates- Thread

They may have to pay the BBC's costs as well. And those lawyers don't come cheap.

I'd have said I don't mink my licence fee going on that, but then I remembered I don't pay a licence fee....

Rolfe.

What happened to UKIP's threat to challange the BBC?

Partly what Richard said, but also, the earlier debates weren't on the BBC, and the basis of this complaint was related to the BBC charter. I think that might have had some bearing.

Rolfe.

I was forgetting that aspect! Yeah, that's the basis on which they thought they might have an argument, but it is notable that they waited until after the debates had started to climb aboard the litigation boat.

If they had been truly vexed about missing out per se I'd have thought they'd have moved sooner - it's not as though it was a secret that the debates were coming up. Unless they thought that a short timescale might force the BBC's hand. Who knows, clearly I don't :p

One aspect that I hadn't noticed earlier was that part of their bid was to prevent the BBC broadcasting the debate in Scotland if they weren't allowed to take part. I'm sure that would have gone down enormously well across Scotland; that's real dog-in-the-manger stuff.

So tonights the night, any pre-debate predictions / thoughts on how it'll go?

I sense a bit of a turn around from Cameron, tonights open to relatively easy sound bites which will work in his favour. Clegg will perform well, probably the same as the other 2 debates.
I've got a horrible feeling Brown will mess this up tonight, whilst I think he has a better handle on the details I don't think he'll be able to communicate them to the public.

Hopefully the questions are a bit "better" than last week.

1.Clegg
2.Cameron

and Brown a poor 3rd

Thats my guess what the polls will say.

Once again I'm concentrating on the important stuff....

First Leader to mention his wife David Cameron @ 15/8

First Leader To Say "efficiencies" – David Cameron @ 5/6

First Leader To Say - "Public Spending" – Nick Clegg @ 5/2

The latter two are hardly fair, they'll be spouted within all 3's first sentance.

Brown surely must be still flustered from bigotgate. I feel quite sorry for him tonight.

Agree about Cameron - playing it safe and simple is probably his best bet.

Clegg... could play it safe and just cruise or try and go for it and do really well or cock up badly.

I would love Brown to make his opening statement a simple:

"Look the woman was bigoted. I don't like bigots."

The BBC look like they are dying to bellow

"The election leadership debate... Are you not entertained!"

:D

Interesting - a very clear "No euro" from Cameron

Playing to the anti-Europe sentiment?

Cameron and Clegg both think we should "Make more stuff"

And we are off again; Brown in UKIP purple, Cameron back in blue, Clegg in bright orange instead of the subtle tones of the previous weeks, and Dimbleby going wild with a flowery tie (pink on black or possibly navy).

Mr Cameron thinks we should make things does he? After his party brutally tore the heart out of our manufacturing industry. Utter douche.

Oh Jesus, the crap questions continue...

"You're lying about what you will do, why not tell us the truth?"

Well that's fantastic.
