Presidential Primaries 2016

The GOP clown car is so clownish that incredibly asinine statements by candidates barely draw notice.

Scott Walker, world class dolt, proposes that a wall be built on the US - Canada border. :boggled:

CNN said this morning that Ben Carson has drawn equal with Trump in Iowa, apparently on the basis of his being, unlike Trump, a nice guy. He is also, of course, a religious right loon who thinks God wants him to run for president. Classic example of very smart people being complete idiots.

They had a Carson spokesman on and asked what Carson's strategy for ISIS is. He said "We need to get rid of ISIS". When pressed for strategy, he mumbled something about "working with our allies". Now THERE'S a strategy for you. Not as stupid as Trump saying he'll get rid of ISIS in two weeks by hiring a smart general and seizing IRAQ's oil, but close.

I saw some results from that poll putting Carson in the hunt. WHY? I cannot for the life of me figure out one single thing he offers that makes him presidential material. Not a thing.

I think it's the character thing. Trump, Walker, and Cruz all come off as meanies. Bush and Christie are disingenuous. Rand and Carly are arrogant. Carson, loon though he may be, seems like a nice guy.

Ben Carson, for those who want an extremely conservative outsider, but are turned off by Trump being an ******* and rather unconvincing evangelical.

ETA: looking at the data of the poll with a Trump/Carson tie, Carson does win women and evangelicals.

Well, it's better than Obama telling our allies to **** off and die.

He didn't do that? Really? I could have sworn Clint Eastwood said he did.

New numbers.

A recent Quinnipiac University national poll showed him [Carson] in second place in the Republican field, and a Monmouth University survey of Iowa Republicans released on Monday had him tied with Mr. Trump. Another Iowa poll, by The Des Moines Register and Bloomberg, had the two candidates running closely within the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Mr. Carson tied with Mr. Trump for the top spot in the poll at 23 percent, and pulled ahead of him with female voters and evangelical Christians.

Now we have a horse race.

I am dubious. I think Carson belongs in the flash-in-the-pan category like all the 2012 GOPers. I just don't see any staying power.

You are probably right. But horse races sometimes have sprinters who can't go the distance. I think my analogy stands

Thus far, the GOP race has not much involved the spending of significant campaign resources. as that becomes a larger issue, the race will narrow to those with lots of personal cash (and whether or not Americans voters want their political decisions made by those who can buy their way into positions to make those decisions). We should actually see a similar position on the DNC side but with the comparison of campaign wealth v. populist support in the Clinton - Sanders face off.

Joe Biden's latest announcement:

He sounds like he's depressed, certainly not enthusiastic.
He's wearing a Yamaka?

Carson's going to sound good until the voters get over on his side of the fence and see that shade of green doesn't look the same up close.

The one thing he and Trump have in common as compared to the other's is that they're not traditional politicians. That may not necessarily be the nomination decider, but we'll see. I'm not much interested in having a Trump

Yes.
The folks who have never he office account for 50% of the poll numbers

The way I read the poll numbers is dissatisfaction with the establishment party members. I can't predict what happens with Trump because he's defied conventional wisdom with polling and politicians, saying things that are genuinely political suicide for any other candidate. I think the only "benefit" Trump would have as a POTUS is being blatantly obvious about his ideology, but he will be a ****y POTUS at that.

Ben Carson, is a badly needed injection of some diversity for the party along with Fiorina even if neither one gets the nomination. The remainder of the candidates are essentially professional politicians...

Still other than Trump defying conventional thinking, it''s still over a year before elections.

What happened to Scott Walker? He was leading in Iowa in July. He's slipped to 5th place.

I guess he's had trouble giving clear answers to questions about things he doesn't want to have a position on, and says things like let's consider building a wall on the Canadian border.
