I think that's one result of the over-patriotism in the US and the reverence of said symbols. It might shock some people here, but I find it silly how people put their hands over their hearts when the anthem plays before hockey games, and some even seem to be raptured by it, cheering wildly when it gets to "our flag was still there". :boggled:

And they never sing the verse about the glory in killing traitorous slaves. They could at least sing that one.

I love my country and absolutely hate the overuse of the symbols as if waving a flag really proves your love for it. 90 percent at least that wave that flag around couldn't tell you 5 of the first Ten Amendments that make up the Bill of Rights. What is the USA.? It certainly ISN'T what most of these people think it is. I particularly hate those flag lapel pins so prominent on Republican politicians. It's illusory and disingenuous. It's part of the con man's wardrobe. It's for America and that's why we are sodomizing all of you.

I sometimes wonder what the Founding Fathers would have to say about the USA now, and the modern age in general. I'm sure it'd be quite an interesting interview. :)

You mean this verse?

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave

Yep. It was about the british colonial marines who were escaped slaves who joined the british army for their freedom. Americans where pissed when those thieving brits didn't return our property after the war. It helps to know more about the battle of baltimore.

I tend to think that too much credit and too little credit is extended to them. It's a bit of a miracle that they were able to create such a lasting democracy. And who exactly was a founding father? Thomas Paine wasn't a member of the Continental Congress yet his writings easily contributed as much to the character and principles that formed the nation. Individually they were as flawed and as petty as any of us.

Yes, I'd love it if Jefferson, Franklin, Paine, Hamilton, Madison or Adams could come back and give their opinions about the state of the nation to be. But don't expect a consensus.

Our anthem has verses about crushing the Rebellious Scots and protecting us from Priests and Popish Reverie, they don’t tend to get sung much.

In all fairness, I don't think the entire Francis Scott Key poem is considered to be The National Anthem. I have never heard more than the first stanza sung in my life.

Yes, and as a parent of teens lemme tell you, those job killing child labor laws and expensive Occupational Health and Safety regulations are destroying the economy.

Make America Great Again: deregulate Teh Eveythings

Ahh the extreme. No I'm talking about the local business that employs 50 people who has a large tank for a sprinkler system, which was of course law that they had to have since they were on a water well.

Time has marched on and before you know it public water has been brought right to their door, but the government what's 60,000 dollars for a permit to hook up to it.

That my friend is what I'm talking about, there are thousands of little regulations like that hurting business. Hopefully Trumps pen can start removing some.

Do we need roads? Do we need schools? Do we need a military? Do we need the police and courts? Do we need laws ?

Roads, schools, military, police and courts aren't what has us Trillions in debt and isn't why our economy is suffering from too much regulation.

What about smokestack or vehicle emissions or banking regulations?

But let's look closer at the regulations you mentioned. I can see a purpose for the sprinklers and a fee to hook up to the water main. Ever hear about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory? Also, how much do you think it cost to put in the water main and who do you think should pay for it?

Let's argue about specific regulations instead of whining about them in general.

My experience is most of them have legitimate purposes and some go too far. I'm all in favor of addressing those that should be revised and eliminated.

But I also know the nature of humanity and how many individuals will do pretty much anything to save or make a buck including having unsafe working environments and polluting the air water, land and food that we eat. How they will cheat their fellow man if it means more for themselves. Without regulations and enforcement, how can you count on your blood pressure medicine actually being medicine that will help you?

That rebellious Scot, Burns, responded by commending the Americans as an example for the oppressed Highlanders to follow. Would that they had done so!

Then up amang thae lakes an’ seas
They’ll mak what rules an’ laws they please.
Some daring Hancocke, or a Frankline,
May set their Highlan bluid a ranklin;

Some Washington again may head them,
Or some Montgomery, fearless, lead them;
Till, God knows what may be effected,
When by such heads an’ hearts directed:
Poor dunghill sons of dirt an’ mire,
May to patrician rights aspire;

Nae sage North, now, nor sager Sackville,
To watch an’ premier owre the pack vile!
An’ whare will ye get Howes an’ Clintons
To bring them to a right repentance,
To cowe the rebel generation,
An’ save the honor o’ the Nation?

So, you're saying Trump should be helping out this particular type of special snowflake, because monies. Ignore all the externalities and consequences for others. Typical.

That is simply a lie. The military makes up a sizable portion of the budget. There is also a cost of NOT having adequate regulations that protect the common good.

Here are just some examples.

EPA super fund sites for mining and chemical companies long since defunct. We pay billions every year dealing with nuclear wastes. Banking regulations like Glass Steagal protected the average Joe from being ripped off from the banks. We got rid of it and bailed out the banks.

The corporations and stockholders enjoy the profits while the rest of us have to pay for the mess.

Logger thinks the environment is a toilet and we shouldn't care about it. I'd bet money he owns a new diesel truck that he has deleted the EGR and DPF. If you don't logger, my apologies. But I know he knows what I am talking about.
